We usually order Namyang Science Baby Formula online but my husband forgot. We went to Lotte Mart to pick up a can to last a few days until they arrived. Today my husband was making our son's bottle and noticed it looked a little different. When he checked the expiration date it was dated July 18, 2011! I could understand if it was a week or maybe even a month past the expiration but seven months seems ridiculous.
Don't buy your baby formula from Lotte Mart without checking the date.

When it comes to shady business practices, Korea's no better than China. Check the expiration dates when you buy ANYTHING in Korea.

In fact I think Korea should be thrown out of the OECD until it learns to do business properly and honestly.

Not all dates printed on the outside are expiration dates per se. Sometimes dates printed are date produced/manufactured/bottled/etc. and its expiration date will be simply given as 'one month from production' or 'good for 6 months', etc. Some other goods have both.

I'm not trying to suggest that Lotte Mart in OP's case must be innocent - on the contrary, big marts indeed have been caught and fined for manipulating expiration dates numerous times in the past. Nevertheless, I'm simply pointing out that the practice varies depending on products and manufacturers, hence not all dates printed somewhere shall be regarded as 'expiration dates', especially by those unfamiliar with corresponding Korean glossaries.

You might as well throw out every other country out of the OECD as well. Please, tell me what country YOU are from so that I can pull examples of companies that engage in "shady business practices".

I saw a news story on KBS last week where a hidden camera reporter got into some meat packaging building and they were opening expired beef packages and then repacking it with new expiration dates. I think it was being sold at some hotel as high priced domestic beef.

In no other country, maybe besides China, are shady and corrupt business practices so widespread and unpunished. And even in China if you *beep* around with food, they hang you. Food is a line that even CHINA of all countries doesn't cross.

As someone else has hinted at, there is a difference between 'best before' and 'use by' dates - this is what causes confusion throughout the world!

Baby powder will fall into the 'best before' cat - so yes, even though it 7 months 'past it's best' it would still be safe to use - although I for one would have bought (having looked at the best before date, an 'in date' can) - because I would love my baby enough, not to be in so much of a rush! Twisted Evil

I think so. It is like an investigative journalism show, and they have some comedians acting out some silly skits in between stories. (One woman has short hair)

Exaggerate much?

I've bought a few products that were expired before. I take it back with my receipt and show them the date. They either give me a newer one or my money back. With an apology.

You're just nasty. It isn't "in a rush" to go to the store and buy some when you have a car and there are stores. Some people aren't hoarders, with 3 cans of formula. She loves her baby. Don't be a jerk.

Doesn't that support his statement since two people was executed for being responsible for the milk scandal?

Is it just me, or has Dave's become a haven for those who exist on here merely to challenge any negative mention of this society?

If teachers want to read propaganda, they can read the English versions of Korean newspapers.

It's just you. Negative "mentions" are fine...it's when they contradict facts (such as China's record on food safety) that they should be refuted.
