Hate to say it, but I think his 60 Minutes career was pretty well summed up up by Mad Magzine years ago...

Quote:
Mike Wallace: The only guy in New York City who's fighting mad about crooked bingo games in Wyoming.

In fairness, he also covered a lot of interesting stuff. Here is a documetaty he did on the Black Muslims, back in the late 50s...

The Hate That Hate Produced

He had a bit of a history with those guys, as he went on to interview Farrakhan alone, many decades later.

RIP.

Too bad. I remember the 60 Minutes stand ins/replacements, especially that dumb but attractive Aussie or English blonde chick (or Anderson Cooper), being good reasons why I began watching less of that show. Who's next? Ellen? I never read much into Mike Wallace, but I enjoyed him in most of the interviews I saw him give. Ugh, I know Charlie Rose, who also stands in on 60 minutes sometimes, will be the next to go. The Charlie Rose Show has always been one of my favorite programs. I enjoyed Mike Wallace on 60 minutes most of the time, though he at times sounded like he had popped a bunch of xanax before his interviews.

I was really shocked to learn he was as old as he was - 93!! wow - and to keep on going that long - what a dedicated individual - awesome contribution to the world.

he will be missed.
