Depends on the company.
I strongly believe in the principles (when investing in firms) of value investing. Don't worry about the health of the market per se, but the fundamentals of the firm itself.
Here is a video of Buffet discussing this idea.

thePeel you didn't answer my question... I asked... Should I get into a technology fund (A Mutual Fund with 99 stocks in technology).
Do you think that the technology sector is going to improve? |

Sure. The fed is pumping out money like crazy. Dollar goes down and exports are cheaper. But the returns you get are also in dollars and worth less.
Buy gold. |

Depends on your time horizon. Mutual funds are falling out of favor. Many people are getting into ETFs - Exchange Traded Funds. Here is a good place to get started - http://finance.yahoo.com/etf
As far asking someone what stock to buy, if you want to invest you need to take a little time and do some homework. I think uranium is in a huge bull market for years to come but not all uranium stocks are good. If you look at URANIUM PARTICIPAT COM NPV (u.to) it has uranium and uran. stocks.
To answer your question, yes I think tech is a good buy here but you have to research what companies are in the ETF/mutual fund.
Most metals will have a long term boom because of building in China, Brazil and other emerging countries. Other people will say China is done after the 2008 Olympics but if you do any research into China you will see how wrong this is. |

I know about the mineral run and I am already invested in that sector (expect uranium). My thinking was that technology is cheap and that I should diversify.

Depends on which tech. Some say Google, RIMM, Apple have ran to high. Hard to say. I think you have to look into the different areas of tech. Check out the ETFs.
What are you invested in the metals? |

If you're looking to diversify your speculative/high-risk end of your portfolio, you should consider looking east. Consider Petrochina or chinatel. You can expect demand for petroleum and communication technologies to increase in China over the next decade. Just my 2 cents.
By the way, what do you see in US tech stocks? I know a lot of people looking to invest in that sector but I'm still not convinced that that is the best place to invest at the moment. |

I think if you buy BHP Billiton for the long term you'll get 10% a year without worries. |
