For the first month, what do you recommend. Is it best to bring everything as cash? I was thinking about 500,000 won and then using my card for everything else as my bank have said they wont charge me for using my card abroad. Is that sensible or would you recommend just bringing everything as cash/travelers cheques? |

Bring cash. (either US$, UK pounds or Euros - crisp new bills). Do NOT buy won outside of Korea.
YOUR bank might not impose a fee for overseas use but the ATMs here do and you may not be able to use it other than at an international ATM (not all ATMs are international).
The amount of cash you are talking about is minor (<$2000) so really is nothing more than 10-20 notes in your pockets.
Skip the T/Cs. They are a pain to deal with.

Ok, but why shouldn't I buy won here? If the rate is good shouldn't I get it before it drops? |

Why not buy Won outside of Korea? I've done it a couple of times in the past, got a great rate (better than Incheon Airport) and never had an issue with the notes provided. |

Wow, I've never heard of a place outside of Korea that gave a better exchange rate on the won. Where did you get this rate? |

Personally, I never had a problem using my American Visa debit card to pay for anything in Korea, and it always worked in ATMs.
However, I had a nightmarish situation upon arriving at the Osaka airport when I realized that I couldn't use my Korean bank card in any of their ATMs... oy vey. Thank god for online bank transfers and my American Visa debit card. Just remember that when you travel. |

A British company called Iceplc.com, yesterday it was 1 = W1,690.62 and if you order over a certain amount its delivered for free and there are no charges.
If however the rate is better at Incheon I would do that. |
