Hi guys,

I just got offered a position at Majang High school in Icheon. It's gonna be my first time to Korea so I'm wondering if anyone could give me a general idea of this place and your opinion of the school if you've worked there.

Climate?
Easy to get around on foot?
Food and Supermarkets close by?
Monthly expenses (utility bills + avg cost of living)?

thanks so much!

I haven't lived in Icheon, but I did spend time around there, and I may have visited Icheon once. I am trying to remember if it was Icheon or Anseong. Look at where you are familiar with. Is Icheon north or south of it? For me it is a little bit south, so it's not as cold in winter but has 4 normal seasons. I lived in Pyeongtaek and in the summer the mosquitos bit like bees. Get ready for the same if you are out near farmland.

All of Korea is easy to get around. They have buses, trains, and planes. This is something you need to talk to the school/recruiter about. You can go into Seoul, but it might take 1-2 hours.

You will be able to get all kinds of food. They don't really have supermarkets like in the west. Instead they are part of a bigger Walmart like store. A couple in Korea are E-Mart and Lotte Mart.

"E-Mart is located out in the northeast corner of Icheon's urban area, along Highway 70" - http://wiki.galbijim.com/Icheon

Here is a link for Lotte Mart, it looks like. I am in China and at school so I can't check www.youtube.com/watch?v=tCWntoJk6zk

Majang Middle and High School is just off the National Road 42. About 5 miles West from Icheon proper. You'll be in the middle of farmland famous for growing the best rice in Korea. Rice means climate is temperate. If you are lucky you'll get a room in the Icheon proper and enjoy some semblence of urban life.
