I see way to many 9am-7pm type jobs for the standard pay of 2.1-2.2.

You can get that pay with a 2pm - 8pm job.

Dont understand why in the world people are accepting those type hours for that pay.

Why work 10 hours for something you could work 6?

Your point is valid at 2-8, but it becomes less so once you start talking 3-9 and 4-10. I might rather work a 9-6:30 kindy shift and have my evenings free, even if it means working a few more hours every day. Also, those 2-8 jobs are seldom really 2-8, as those are merely your class hours and they generally want you there an hour or so before you start teaching to prep, while the job with the early start includes all prep time in the general working hours. In the future I'll probably avoid the kindy gigs as there's no room for upward mobility, but if the vacation and pay is the same and I'm working an entry level gig, I'd probably take the earlier start time with the earlier finish.

I just couldnt see myslelf working 10-11 hours for flipping 2.1 million won!

Thats just abursed, atleast to me....

Even with an hour of prep (usually before work) added on its still only 7 hours.

i was about to post the same earlier.

i'm currently looking for a job and keep finding hours like 9.30-7.30 for 2.1-2.2. i assume there is an hour or so of prep til 10.30 and lunch but i keep wondering who is taking these jobs.

i've seen a kindy job up on the boards from 9-6 a station down from me. i personally prefer kindy students but the same job is there, week after week. must it be awful or worth a shot?

Some people are morning people and would rather get work out of the way and then have free time later~

I've done both kinds of jobs and personally, I am so not a morning person, especially around a bunch of sugar-hyper kindies, LOL... also the fact that all of my friends worked evenings so I was always by myself ("no, I can't go out at midnight...").

Also, be careful about thinking there are breaks. I didn't have any. There weren't even breaks between classes, and lunch meant sitting beside the kids who wouldn't eat and shoveling the food into their mouths for them...

And yet, there are good kindies out there, so~~ it depends on what you're looking for

the thing is your not getting it out the way if you end at 6pm or 7pm.

working 4 - 5 MORE hours to get 1 or 2 hours more a night is absurd when you can get a job that ends at 8pm

Most teachers don't get on Dave's or any other sites and do research to find out what the standard hours, pay, and benefits for ESL teachers in Korea are. They probably see dozens of jobs advertising 2.1 million a month for 10 hours of work a day and just assume that is the standard.

And if you have qualifications and/or experience, you can always ask for a higher salary... I told an old boss that her pay scale was really low for the hours and she told me that the recruiter had told her what pay to offer! @.@;

I would definitely take an extra hour of work if it meant not having to work nights.

Morning people should be working public school jobs.

Night people should be working afternoon / evening hagwons.

Yes, there are exceptions to that but generally speaking it makes sense. Avoid all jobs that have >8 hours or split shifts.
