If so, you might find this interesting...

Things left on buses are more lost than found

Quote:
If you leave something behind on a bus, the odds of recovering it seem to be entirely up to chance.

That wasnt the case for a bank employee named Jeon who left his laptop on an intercity bus on his way home from work last June. The next day, Jeon, 33, contacted the bus company to see if they had found it.

The companys response: We havent found anything.

Wisely, Jeon reported his missing laptop to the computer manufacturer.

Three months later, the manufacturers service center contacted Jeon and informed him that the stolen laptop was scheduled for repair. Jeon reported it to the police.

It turned out, the manager of the bus companys lost and found service had adopted Jeons computer to use as his own.

The police said yesterday it indicted that man, an employee of a bus company in Susaek-dong, Eunpyeong District in northwest Seoul surnamed Kim, 33, and three other employees for stealing wallets, cellphones, laptop computers and other valuables left on buses.

Between July 2008 and December 2011, police said, Kim filched 123 items that were worth a total of 10 million won. A technician surnamed Jeong, 50, took five cellphones left by passengers from the lost and found section worth around a million won since August 2011.

Police said many passengers called to inquire about their lost items, but were simply told they hadnt been found.

It has been revealed that the bus company stores lost items carelessly and does not follow proper regulations for dealing with them, a police officer said.

Interesting...

Lost my wallet in a cab once, a ride I wanted at the time but wasn't really necessary. The driver sped off after I got out and immediately realized that the wallet fell out in the back seat.

The next time was with a brand spanking new wallet, put it in my jacket pocket and didn't feel it slip out. Got off the bus and met my friends, realized that the wallet wasn't there.

Funny thing is, the cabbie (or some kind rider) mailed me my wallet, ID, & cards minus cash a few days later. And people say they are the ex-cons?

coincidence you bring this topic up. I lost my phone on the bus just yesterday. My wife tracked it via GPS and saw it go to several cities and then finally to Youngsan. Electronic capital of subways stations. She said someone took it and went there to try to sell it.
Then, 2 hours later after she repeatedly called it, a woman picked it up and said she has it and that she would mail it to us today.
THANK GOD!

In the 5 years that I was there I never lost anything; friends were losing $hit all of the time. Fast forward to China and I managed to lose my debit card within a week and my Korean gf within 3 months, lol.

I accidentally left my phone on the bus, once. It either slipped out of my pocket, or I'd had it on my lap and forgot when I left. I hadn't been feeling great that evening, so didn't notice until I got home. I called my phone from skype, and a woman answered. I asked her where I could meet her, and she told me an area with which I wasn't familiar. I told her that my Korean-speaking friend would call her right back. I had my K-bestie call her, and she arranged a meeting area in between our locations. I got her a giant Hershey's bar and a Starbucks latte as thanks for returning it, because she'd told my friend that she didn't want any money as a reward.

I've also returned a few phones that I've found in taxis. One taxi driver gave me one and told me that it belonged to a foreigner, and would I return it?

Karma's good.

Back when I was on 019 still (didn't change until recently), my old phone gave out so I wanted to get something newer without changing my number. So I got a halfway decent simple phone that was 019 friendly. Not long after, I lose it on the bus. It had fallen out of my pocket and I was tired and didn't notice when I got off the bus.

It wasn't exactly a high-end phone, but the lost and found office claimed no phone had been found. Rolling Eyes

I lost my phone on a bus once.

The next day, my coteacher came to my door with my phone. Apparently, someone found it and called him from it. I suppose that's the benefit of having a shoddy phone.

I left my phone in a cafe once. Someone found it and gave it to the cafe employees. I left an umbrella in a taxi, never got that back. I loved that umbrella. Crying or Very sad

It's funny though, when Koreans talk about losing things in cabs, buses, etc...they always say that someone/driver will steal it and sell it. But foreigners always talk about how they get their items back most of the time.

I did lose a wallet and a phone in Korea. If I lost something in Korea, I pretty much recovered the items except for umbrellas. I haven't lost an umbrella in quite a while. I plan on holding on to the one I got. I like it.

I dropped my wallet on a bus once. Got a call from the police two months later to pick it up at the station. Had all my money and everything just the way it was.
