I know I've seen posts in the past about this but cant seem to find them. Where do you get a Korean drivers license? Do you just go to the dong office or immigration? |

Are you talking about:
1. converting your home country's licence to a Korean licence
or
2. getting a licence in Korea because you don't have one ? |

The local driver's license office.
There are 2 or 3 in Seoul, 1 in between Yongin-suji that serves Suwon, Yongin, Suji, Seongnam and about 20 others scattered throughout the country.

You have to make a trip to the embassy first. You show up there, pay them $50, or 60k won, they look at your license, notarize the affidavit and you're done.
THEN you go to the local DLA and take a physical test, eye test, and general driving knowledge test. You'll get your Korean license the same day.
I went to the one in Yongin and it was just alot of back and forth from place to place to get stamps and take tests ETC. Not fun but not hard. |

What if you don't have a drivers licence back home? I don't have enough time before I leave England to take the test, but is it possible to take the test in Korea and then convert that into an international drivers licence when I come home? It would be nice not to have wasted all that money on driving lessons for no reason |

zoeksk: public transportation is very good in Korea, so you don't really need a driver's licence if you're only going to stay in Korea for few years.
Although getting a local licence would be good idea for you to understand the local driving philosophy. I have taken the local motorcycle licence test. Things such as what to do at traffic lights, who has priority at cross sections, or who gets the blame at accidents are different to the British way. |
