I thought this was the beginning of the end of the public school position.
Am I missing something here? |

| I think it's due to people backing out at the last minute. A common problem when dealing with newbies. |

It seems a ton of funding came through.
PS are not finished yet. I think they peaked in 2010 and probably downhill from here but no this is prime hiring time.
Looks like Korean teachers won't be teaching alone just yet.
Take it while it is going. 4 - 6 weeks vacation. 1.9 - 2.6 million won and a reliable employer.
Nothing more a newbie or experienced ESLer could ask for. |

Sure, a few months people were reading the last rights to the Korean public school system.
I look at the current vacancies here and it couldn't be further from the truth. Peak time indeed. |

| Just be careful which MOE/ province/ program you go with. I wouldn't touch GEPIK with a ten foot pole. It seems like all the problems start there, so they will likely be the first ones on the chopping block when shit hits the fan with anything from funding to experimental breaches of contract to dismal housing, etc. |

Funny how that hasn't effected their rate of pay. GEPIK is currently offering 2.0 to 2.3....is that their less than subtle way of inviting foreign teachers to stay in their country of origin? |

Really? I know people who claim to be on 2.5. They do overtime and tell me about making over 3 million I believe them.

| In order to qualify for 2.6 you need 3 ish years of experience working for GEPIK so I assume a newbie with an MA and TESOL can only make 2.3 in the first year, I guess. |

^ You also need to stay at the same school year after year. Change schools and you're treated like a newbie again.  |

This time around I don't think so. I know a bunch of people who left their positions due to funding falling through, only for their schools to get funded at the last minute. |

I did notice that but on Dave's ESL separate registration is required for the Korea discussion forums.
Therefore you have been in Korea or interested in Korea for approximately 5 years.
Maybe if you had stuck it out in PS in Korea you could be on 2.6 and have a host of other benefits.
