|
|
Hi Everyone,
People like Panda have posted that dialing "1688-4949" and then the US or Canadian number allows free international calls. Does anyone have info about this service?
I should mention that I have the most basic service plan available (i.e. 15,000 won per month base rate, plus 10 won per month per minute); I do not believe I have "anytime minutes".
If any of you have opinions or information, please let me know. I've made mistakes in the past, and have spent over $3 per minute to make an international call. I want to make sure I know what I'm getting into.
Thanks |

Yes, it works. Use your Korean cellphone to dial International landlines. You will only be charged for local minutes. |

So, if you don't pay for local minutes, the entire call is free? |

This is correct. I've been using it for four years. |

I use this one a whole bunch.
1688-4949
then just dial your number, if it's your home number back in the states:
1 - 718 - 420 - 6969 #
(1 - *** - *** - **** #) |

There are about 5 countries that you can place a call to both landlines and mobile phones. The site that displayed the national flags and calling options seems to be down, but if I recall the US, Canada, Japan, China were among the ones where calling both mobile and land lines were possible.
There were other countries such as Ireland, Italy..etc where you could only place a call to a landline..but again that website has been down for awhile...but there may be another link from google that will give the specifics. |

The site/number mentioned above still works even though the site is down (I liike Atwood have been using it for years)
However while searching the net for a cached page (couldnt find one) I cam across another very simlar service that supposedly offeres the same thing (international calling to selected countries for for domestic minutes.
http://www.1688-0044.co.kr/
Much like 1688-4949...the top group of flags represent countries that can receive a call on both land and mobile phones. The bottom group of flags can only receive calls from landlines. |
