Somebody I am trying to help has a strange situation. There hagwon has been sold and is changing owners. The new owners want the present teachers to sign a new contract.
Well one teacher is not liking the situation and school. She does not want to sign the new contract. She would rather leave and go find a new job. So what is the procedure for this. I suspect that she will not get a "Letter of Release" But is a letter of release need as in a way the school is changing.
I have done some research. Still I am a little confused. So if she does not sign the new contract does her visa expire/end? Reading past posts I think she should go to immigration and give notice. I think she will then be given 30 days to leave Korea or find a new job. Now lets say she does find one can she transfer her job (sans "LOR"). Or does the school still hold her visa even through owners have changed.
OR would it be better to leave, go to Japan, come back on tourist visa and apply for another E-2. But if she does this route. I suspect she may have to submit new paperwork. Once again this one confuses me. Well with recent changes and the vagaries of immigration that she may not need to submit a new verified degree or CRC. She does not really want to do that as well getting paperwork is difficult and time consuming.
Thanks

This just happened to my friend with her Langcon being bought up by corporate. She received her LOR.
If they're demanding that she sign a new contract I don't think it's out of the realm of possibility to get a LOR. My friend got hers and got a new job at an after-school that pays higher and has better benefits. Blessing in disguise.
As long as your friend is on good terms with the school and the school isn't shady, then just ask for the LOR. |

| Look into changing the visa to a D10, lifesaver option. You can then change it back to an E2 with a new school. |
