This is hilarious. Oddly, it won't get as much attention as when a group of foreigners did a similar, albeit less bacchanalia, version of the same stunt.

http://news.chosun.com/site/data/html_dir/2012/03/02/2012030201796.html?news_Head3

Hilarious how things repeat themselves.

Edit: The sexist overture is a bit odd being that many of the drinkers look to be men. (I guess it could be the whole ajumma aging effect, but there's no reason why they should call it a women's mountain climbing group when clearly some of the soju smashers are men).

HOWEVER IT IS REFRESHING TO SEE THAT KOREANS ARE BEGINNING TO CRITICIZE THEMSELVES AND REDUCE THE HISTORICAL DOUBLE STANDARD THEY APPLY TO NON-KOREANS/ FOREIGNERS. HIP HIP HOORAY! HIP HIP HOORAY!

Edit 2 (Mar 5): The article was titled something like "Women's Mountain Hiking Group Smashed on Train." The title was quickly changed to avoid the sexism mentioned in the previous edit.

Or perhaps, these Koreans were negatively influenced by foreigners. They never did this sort of stuff until foreigners paved the way.

Who knows, while the netizens may have been virulent in their criticism, J. Kyu Ajosshi and Ajumma may have been looking at that and thinking "Good idea..."

No, Koreans tear themselves apart in rather nasty fashion. Stories of misconduct result in over-the-top denunciations for Koreans too.

The difference being that the self-denunciations don't stick; just the flavor of the day. A few bad Korean apples compared to the rotten roots of the foreigner tree.

Man that was enjoyable to read. Love how it's an even larger group than the little squad of foreigners off to the rock festival... they're taking up the entire car!

I guess they were having such a good time at the top of the hill they decided to keep the party going all the way down and into the subway. Pretty harmless, though, as long as they weren't harassing anyone.

The Korean language news is full of stories of Koreans pointing fingers at each other. It's a fallacy that Koreans think they are above reproach.

I've always wondered: why do they sell beer on the subway platform if I'm not meant to drink it there?

What do you mean they don't stick? People are smeared for life here.

Do you really believe that English teachers are front and center in Korean people's minds when it comes to who they hate and who they're worried about?

Sorry, you aren't that big of a deal to them. They hate one of their neighbors/co-workers and love gossiping about Korean celebrities and politicians more than they care about English teachers.

Apologist-induced myopia or myopic apologist?

"They" don't need "you", get it?

Just the plain truth my friend. And if I were you I wouldn't be pointing fingers at people having myopia...seems like I corrected a particularly bad case of yours on this thread.

Friend?

Cherry-picking, prooftexting...whatever. I have avoided you completely for so long....back to it.

A wise strategy and one I recommend you continue to follow. At least you know when you are over-matched. Never get in a fight with someone who has the facts on his side.

No, the one with narrow vision I believe is you. Do you really think that what you see here is "their" attempt at smearing foreigners as part of some well-coordinated campaign? What about all of the positive articles about foreigners? I think you're just looking for the negative and taking everything in as a whole.

Indeed but if a person does not bother to try and read Korean then they assume....when people assume...well you know the rest.
