Last time around I went with Shinhan and got a pretty good rate with a 6-month CD. It wasn't actually called a CD, but that's essentially what it was because I couldn't touch the money while it was gaining interest. They also gave me a really good exchange rate when I left. Any other positive experiences? |

Wow no one? I guess my only option is heading to Shinhan, Hana, Woori, etc. and speaking with them directly. |

It's difficult to respond when you only refer to your previous rate as pretty good. I'd like to know what it was as I have locked in money previously at both KB and KEB. If you put up the interest rate at Shinhan as a benchmark comparisons can be made. |

All the financial wizards on here have killed themselves after being wiped out in the savings bank collapses. Duh.
I've tried looking on naver for a compiled list, but couldn't ever find one. Generally, I check the websites and find out what they are. They all have a link somewhere on the homepage to their rates.
It is good to go in though and check - I went to Woori and planned on getting a CD with a rate that was online, and they had an even better deal going on in the branch, so you might find that there are better, unadvertised (at least online) deals to be had.
That being said, I've found that the difference in rates is generally so minimal that it isn't worth it for me to go somewhere else - the research time, the travel time - I just keep mine in Woori (where I bank, a branch IN my building) and consider the few thousand won difference what I would have spent on bus fare to get to the OTHER banks for the better rate. Obviously if you find something with a better rate and a large enough deposit, go for it, but in general, that's what I've found. |
