Ok, so I am sort of baffled on how these positions at my school can not be filled so I figured I would blog about my experience here. I know when I was looking for a job in Korea my three main concerns were 1. Is the school legitimate? 2. Pay? 3. Accommodations..Now I know that everyone is different so concerns will vary but those were mine.
To answer those questions 1. Yes, the school is very legitimate, when I got here they were owned by Herald Media but now owned by YBM (biggest private esl school in Korea). During the change I was treated with respect and received a new contract that better than I originally had. 2. Pay is more than I could of imagined (granted you live in a remote area) and more than most make in Korea (and that's without overtime and teaching as much as 6 classes or as little as 2 or 3 classes). 3. Accommodations...When I first arrived I was in a small studio like most teachers in Korea but it was new and clean. After only 3 months I was moved into a 1 bedroom that was in the same building and just as clean and new.
Now I know some may not want to live in such a remote area but your not far from the city life, Gwangju is only and 1 hr. 15 away and Mokpo is less than an hour. But Gangjin is not a bad place to be, there are nice Korean people here as well as a tight knit group of foreigners.
I dont want to sound like it's the best place in the world but I think some are doing themselves wrong by passing up on a great opportunity to make some great cabbage (that's if that the reason your coming to Korea). If your coming here to party full time and work part then Gangjin is probably not for you. If anyone has any question feel free to email me @ [email protected]. I do know of two positions that will be available soon, one sooner than the other. |
