Hey there,

Hahaha, total noob here in desperate need of guidance! I'm trying to land myself a job in Haeundae in June. I've applied and interviewed with:

Avalon
YBM ECC
Yes Youngdo

And recruiters have offered me interviews with:

SLP
BIS
CDI

I know for sure that Haeundae is where I want to be. And THEORETICALLY most of these schools seem to offer similar deals, but I just want to make sure that I eventually choose the right school for me. So I know we can't outright blacklist schools on the boards but I'd SERIOUSLY appreciate any PMs sent my way!

Thanks in advance!

forgive the cynicism, but Haundae is for people who don't really want to live in Korea. Why even bother?

is this because of the high percentage of foreigners there? maybe OP wants to live in Korea (or just another country other than home) but prefers the laid-back beach environment to the never-ending tidal wave of people in Seoul.

Have you ever lived in Busan?

If not, consider that Haeundae is on the subway network and easily accessible by numerous buses. There are many very nice areas and schools in neighborhoods close to Haeundae.

Limiting yourself to one are like that will mean you will lose out on what could be better jobs...

Just sayin, you may want to broaden your placement requirement a tad....

By the way, Haeundae is not laid back nor is it less densely populated than other areas of Busan. In fact, Haeundae can be packed to the gills.

Good luck to you OP.

Umm...excuse my cynicism, but who are you to tell me what I want?

A couple of my college friends ended up in Haeundae, that's my main driving force. Unfortunately, they only know about their own school and there's no June openings there Sad

Thanks for the heads up, where would you suggest?

Patrick is right, there are many cool areas around Busan and you don't need to worry about focusing solely on Haeundae.

You should expect flack from your question because for those who've been on the board for a while read the same kind of posts every now and then and it makes the poster appear arrogant and ignorant.

If your choice to go there is based on having friends there, then just be careful about coming to Korea.... it's sounds good on paper, but it can be a nightmare here. However, it can be a lot of fun too.

Have you considered Hongdae?

Bascially places like Suyeong (close to Haeundae), Kyungsung dea (bit further but has a very active nightlife, heaps of restaurants), Dongnea (a tad more residential but close to many things)....

Haeundae is a good area, we used to own an appartment there and lived there for a few years. We also lived in Gaegum, Gaya, Suyeong and Gwanganlee....

Thanks for the replies everyone!

Wow, I didn't realize that I could've sounded arrogant! I suppose I can see it, something about a snob only demanding busy cities. But I have lived abroad (both in metro and rural areas) and know it's what I want, you know?

I'm not opposed to checking out Hongnae, especially if it's close, but I really would appreciate some input on the schools listed above...

You'd do fine with Gwangali, and you could be just as close to the beach. It takes about 15 minutes on the train to get from there to Haeundae. I'm actually kind of surprised that recruiters are talking to you if you're limiting yourself to that degree; you'll likely have much better options if you cast your net a bit wider.

It's all a gamble.

The best you can do is contact as many people as possible who currently work at the places you're applying to. If you can, call them on the phone. If the recruiter/HR person doesn't let you talk to them or they don't answer, then be careful. And make sure the people you contact are at the same location you're applying to. Sometimes they have you talk to people who are in a different location.

Hogwans vary a lot from location to location. There are companies with bad reputations, but they might have a few really good branches. Or you might find a job with a company with a good reputation but the branch you apply to turns out to be hell.

Search the board long enough and you'll find answers to most of the schools you posted.

Is it ok to do this after I've already interviewed???

My point about better options still stands.

Certainly not trying to tell you what you should do, just commenting on how insufferably cliche it is for foreigners to want to live there. Saying that, Ganja does make a decent curry.

Have you ever been there in summer? The place makes Mecca during Hajj seem dead.

Can I get an example of a better option? Or at least an answer as to why my current options aren't satisfactory?

Yes, once you decide it's a job you might be interested in. It's too risky for you to just put your faith into the recruiter.
