Last year I bought a Galaxy S with a 2 year contract. My one year just passed, so I have one year left to go. I'm not sure if I paid off the phone during the first year, or if I am paying it off for the entire two years. I have to look that up. Anyway, I want an iPhone ASAP. I'm wondering what kind of fees I'm looking at to pay off the Galaxy and get an iPhone. For example, if I already paid off my Galaxy during this past year, and am just paying the monthly minutes/data, would I have to sign a new contract, or would I be able to use the rest of this one and just extend my current contract? Am I breaking the contract regardless if it is linked to my Galaxy? In addition, is it worth it to just stick with the Galaxy and current contract for one more year because of the fees? |

I'm also curious about this kind of thing. Similar situation, I've had my Optimus 2X for over a year and would like to upgrade to a Galaxy S2 if possible...but no idea what the rules or fees are about upgrading in the middle of a contract. |

Can I terminate the contract before the contract ends?
Yes. After 3 months, you can end your contract. However, you will be required to pay up to a W50,000 termination fee (if any) and the balance on the retail cost of the device. This is calculated according to the prorated number of days remaining on the contract.
For example, the iPhone 4 16GB retails at W814,000. When signing up for a 24-month plan, the discount in the amount of W583,200 is applied monthly. Go the full length of your contract and your actual device cost is W230,800. If you decide to terminate after one year, then the full discount is withdrawn leaving a balance on the device cost of W814,000/24 x (# of months remaining) + W25,000 penalty. This is about W432,000. |

I did exactly this. The balance I had to pay was about 330k for nine months left. I wasn't too fussed as I sold the phone for 260k and expected a hit of sorts. However my phone bills went from 75k a month to 130k a month. Go figure. Obviously I'm paying off 2 phones but still I expected it came in less. Oh well my mistake. My advice would be pay off in one lump sum or if possible have someone take over your contract. Better still hang in there 6 more months n get an iPhone 5! The 4s is nice especially when jailbroken but lack of 4g makes YouTube useless unless on wifi. Plus for some reason Bluetooth 4.0 doesn't even work on this, n judging from forums it's a common problem. If those aren't important then BOOM! Go for it! |
