Sometimes I would just like something different rather than coffee all the time.
Any suggestions? |

Not very groundbreaking but I consider water to be the best and healthiest thing to stay awake and energised. |

Vitamim B seems to do the trick for a lot of people.
Bacchus, if you're into energy drinks.
Eat right, exercise, stop drinking, and get a good night's sleep.
Cutting down on carbs can also help, as a carb-heavy meal will cause an insulin spike which makes you feel drowsy for an hour or two after eating. |

I prefer to hydrate with cheese. Though I do feel awfully thirsty no matter how much cheese I eat. |

Nothing like sound advice from a shaman.
Do you mean as alternatives to this?
Guess you could do apple juice or tea, but the advice above
is tried and true over time. |

Drops of tabasco sauce directly on the eyes.
Thats how soldiers stay awake on watch. |

The one time I've seen somebody drop hot sauce in their eye, he wasn't in any condition to do anything, let alone stand watch. How are you going to stand "watch" if you can't see? |

Every MRE comes with a 1/8 oz bottle of tabasco sauce like the one pictured bellow. The tabasco sauce is intended to be used for adding a little spice to the entree however some soldiers use them for other purposes. Some soldiers use the bottles to make chess sets while others while out in the field will put the tabasco source in their eyes to stay awake while during sentry duty. |

I'm not sure if you're just messing around, but if you're serious, I suggest you get your military info on more reliable sources like, talking to actual soldiers. Have you tried putting Tabasco sauce in your eye? That is the dumbest way to stay awake for watch especially considering the damage it will do to the eye. Soldiers don't do that shit. Well, maybe except the dumb ones. Try it for yourself and see if you can stand watch in any capacity. It will wake you up though for sure.
The Tabasco thing is probably one of the many myths of the military like how people think (even active duty soldiers) the notch on the dog tag is for jamming it between a dead soldier's teeth. Although it could be a myth that's so widely spread that even soldiers end up believing it. |
