If you are driving a car and are involved in a car accident/fender bender in Korea, what should you do immediately after it happens?

I have not been in an accident but would appreciate a step by step explanation of what to do, so that if it ever happens; the situation can be taken care of quickly and smoothly.

Thanks in advance.

Call your insurance company.

1. Do a search for older threads on Dave's that has gone into this in detail already.
2. Mark the road where your tires are with chalk and take pics of the crash BEFORE you move your vehicles.
3. Call your insurance company.
4. Call the police (so they can make a report of what happened in case of dispute later on).
5. Do not leave until you receive the CLAIM NUMBER given to you by the other person's insurance company. This number can be used to get repairs done and seek medical services. This is if you are hit by someone else, although fault will be divided between the two parties regardless of who is at fault.
6. Hold out for a few offers for settlement from the insurance company. This is standard in Korea.

I spoke to a Korean who suggested that I get a black box. The box is something you install on your car dash and it records everything in front of you. Many taxis have them now.

If you are in an accident it would be good for a foreigner especially if you can't speak Korean. The police could simply look at the video from the black box and ignore all other BS that may be said by either driver. It would also be helpful for the insurance company in determining the percentage of responsiblity for the accident.

I've posted this because I haven't seen anything about black boxes in older threads.

Yep, and be prepared for the absolute comedy which is the reaction you'll get from the other driver if he has the same insurance company as you.

Oh, and never, never, never, NEVER, NEVER admit to fault in any way whatsoever. Do not, and I mean do not even say sorry. Let the insurance adjusters deal with the situation.

I have one, it has cameras on the front and rear and two door cameras facing to the rear. It cost 700,000 won, records by motion detector and lasts about 3 days before recording over itself. Hopefully I won't need to use it, but just in case. They're becoming more popular here now.

Looks like a black box is in the future.
