Fixed your post for you.Wink

Articles and quantifiers are determiners.
Determiners are considered by many to be the ninth part of speech.

So there are 9 parts of speech, but YTMND swears by his Google that there are 8.

If there are 8 and articles are 9 and quantifiers and other determiners are counted doesn't that make 10 or 11 ? Or should I just rely on Google to tell me everything?

You want A, but you won't accept the validity when a site claims A. Which authority are you willing to obey? Is this for a job? Is this because you are simply curious? Is this because you are studying to take a test?

I don't swear by google, but unless I see a specific standard required, I don't see why answering 8 with or without exceptions is not good enough.

What goal are you trying to satisfy by asking a vague question?

Ex. Which should I use? A. a couple B. two

Maybe you need a few more examples to understand my point (or is it several?)

hmm...
As mentioned earlier...articles are determiners...as are quantifiers.
Determiners: articles, quantifiers, possessive and demonstrative determiners

So by some(many) determiners make up a ninth part of speech.
Although, others feel determiners are a subset of adjectives.
There are strong arguments to made for both sides.

There are also some who think that auxiliary verbs should be classified as their own part of speech.
If you would like to include that classification, you could say that there are 10 parts of speech.

For the most part, people tend to go by 8 parts of speech.
The last 2 are debatable but defensible either way.

The best is to choose which ones you are most comfortable with.
You can choose to teach which ever ones make most sense to you.
Hope this is useful. Wink

Thank you Cosmic Hum and YTDMN.

I just wanted a discussion on the parts of (English) speech.

I know there is no pure answer. It all depends on who you ask or who wrote the grammar book. I was hoping for a discussion without using links or websites, but just what people know, think, learned or believe.
As you can see by this posting my grammar sucks, but I'm trying.
I just finished a TEFL by the way, and I'm thinking about grammar more.

Sorry if I wasted anyone's time here. Didn't mean to be malicious.
