So, I got my disclosure Scotland and guess what, they didn't sign it even though I asked them to do it. Time is running out before I start my new position in April. (I live in Korea on a f-2-1 visa)
Having just got in touch with the British Embassy they have told me they can't notary it but can attach a certificate to say it is genuine.........
Does anyone know if this will be accepted by the Foreign and Commonwealth Office to be Apostilled? I imagine it would be, but I just want to ask if anyone has personal experience in this.
Thank you |

Wrote a big reply, but thinking of it...just ring the FCO directly and see if they'll accept the Embassy certificate. |

I sent an email to them, so waiting for a reply to that or I'll call them later today as they only take calls after 12.30 pm in the UK.......
It says on the FOC website they accept it if it has a certificate issued by a UK solicitor, that must count as the British embassy as it is technically in the UK......
This whole process is a huge pain in the kimchi....... |

same happened to me - got my disclosure and no signature. depends on how much time you have but i emailed them and told them about the problem (disclosure scotland) and also put in a letter with my certificate explaining exactly what i wanted. took maybe a week, disclosure came back, signed and all was ok |

Did you use DHL/FedEx? If so how did you pay for it to come back to Korea?
Did you not bother trying the Embassy way or did you have some information that that way was a no go? |

This doesn't answer your question, but I had exactly the same problem - no notarization stamp on the disclosure document even though I wrote a big note on the application form for it to be essential to be stamped. I came across another 3 posters on Dave's who this had also happened to. (People suggested afterward that you should email and phone up Disclosure Scotland shortly after you send them the application form to remind them about your request to make it 'foolproof.') I mailed my disclosure back to the UK, but as they only mail back by surface, there was no way I could get my E2 on time. I had to give up the job search for another season. I've also heard that the Apostille process at Milton Keynes (the ONLY place where I've found this is possible to get for UK nationals, hence I suspect going to the Brit Embassy won't work) now takes a min of 3 weeks to process by mail, so I don't know how you are going to get your new E2 by April.
So, yeah, it's a total pain in the a. Maybe you could re-transfer via a D visa for job hunting purposes, but you'll have to look up more on that. |

i mailed it to my parents back in the uk. just asked them to check the signature and when it was absent, used them to send it back to disclosure scotland via recorded post (about a fiver or something).
i didn't know about the embassy way so only did the disclosure scotland method. |

The British Embassy way isn't exactly the best way. They told me the same thing for a slightly different issue, but when I took this supposed 'certificate' to my Korean employer they basically told me that they couldn't accept it. So although the FCO will most likely accept this certificate, I don't know what Korean immigration will think of it. |

British Embassy weren't very helpful, they said the best they could do was give me a signed letter that they had seen it, not even a certificate to verify it was real, never mind a notary!
I just sent it back to disclosure Scotland. I was hoping the British Embassy would have saved me a express delivery charge and a few days.......oh well, I know now for next time.
This isn't for immigration just the MoE here in Korea. Does anyone know what they actually want off individuals or do they only go through employers? I've called them but the English speaking woman didn't have a clue.
Getting there, even if it's two steps forward one step back |
