Anyone know how cheap you can get gym membership for in Korea?

I know Captain Corea pays 180,000 won for his membership but im wondering if this is a normal price

here in uk you pay 44,000 won - 62,000 won for a normal decent membership. (luxury gyms cost more around 130,000 won)

Depends on how long you sign up for. At my gym it's 150,000 if you do just one month, 290,000 for 6 months and 350,000 if you sign up for the year.

first thing i wanted to do was join a gym but the closest one is around 180,000 a month due in part to living in the "nicer" part of Gwangju

in America, the highest i ever payed for a Gym Membership was in NYC around $60-70 bucks a month. Other cities i've lived in, gym memberships usually don't go over $50 and places like 24 hour is great since you can use it anytime

if you guys can recommend places, would appreciate it

A lot of gyms are open 6 days a week, but occasionally you'll find one that is open 7. Luckily mine is open 7 days except the 3rd Sunday of every month. Most will be open till midnight as well.

Just be sure to shop around your area when you get there.

180,000 / month sounds like it includes all the services (GPX, Golf, Classes, Etc...).

If you elect for just "헬스" (gym) then that will be cheaper. Also, they purposely inflate the price so when you sign up they pitch you the "I like you. I'll knock off XXXX off of the price, and I'll give you an extra month."

I agree... go with a smaller one or one advertised as "health"~ Mine was 180,000 for THREE months and it had all the basic workout machines as well as those old-timey "wiggle-your-fat-away" machines and a 목욕탕 (hot bath/ cold bath house... They do tend to close early, so asking the hours and the days open in really important to make sure it works with your schedule

i've heard of some gyms offering discounts if you go in the mornings only. I think from their open until 12pm. If you are a person that likes to workout in the morning, you could always ask about that.

My membership at a relatively small gym in Gangnam is 50,000 a month. It doesn't include any of the yoga or training that you can tack on, but the gym is open 24 hours and has a decent amount of equipment. I'm not sure if that's a typical price, but it's what I pay.

The first gym I signed up for was 210,000 for 3 months and 300,000 for 8 months. They then had a special for 300,000 for 12 months.

I just signed up for a new gym since I moved and it was 120,000 for 3 months. It's open 7 days a week (minus the 1st, 3rd, and sometimes 5th Sunday of the month) from 6:00 a.m. to 11:00 p.m.

I'm currently getting gouged for 100k/mo but it's a decent gym in Seoul and the location is very convienient for me. A comparable gym also in this area is asking 60k/mo -however I would need to use the subway to get there and so would incure travel costs that would eat-up the savings on the monthly dues.

OP- you will pay more for less when it comes to fitness here in Korea. I will also add that unless you speak Korean, you're not going to be able to "ask" about that many things when u join...some people tend to downplay the language barrier but it is significant.

Previously I belonged to a few different gyms down in Jeollanamdo province...a lot cheaper down there with typical dues somewhere around 50k/mo...however the equipment was crappy and the atmosphere poor...pretty much like a rusty old High School gym from the 1980's

Looking for a gym preferrably north of the river in Seoul, with a full size court.

I just paid 480,000 won for 12 months outside of Seoul. It is open 7 days a week except for a couple days a year for National holidays. The opening times are great! 6 am-12 midnight on weekdays and 8am-10pm on weekends. The facilities are nice, there's yoga, pilaties, and other exercise classes for free. And, there's a coed jimjil bang type room. However, golf, shoe/toileties lockers, and workout clothes are extra. The downside is I have to drive to get there but that also means it is nearly empty every time I go.
