|
|
I have been at the same hogwan for nearly a year now. They want me to stay another 6 months so I can see this years Kindergarten graduate (and they think that it looks bad if a teacher leaves halfway through the semester). So I am thinking about signing on again. No big deal.
The problem is that they are pretty sure that I have to do another visa run to Japan. I had worked previously at another hogwan for 2 years and didn't have to do a second visa run. Immigration just extended my then current visa. My school now is pretty adament that I have to go to Japan again.
I don't really care about going on another visa run (hell if I am not paying for who cares right!!!). But it does seem a little odd that I have to do it all over again, considering it will only be for and extra 6 months.
SO....
Is it possible just to get an extension on my current E2 visa or not for 6 months? Have the immigration rules changed, yet again, that I am not aware of?
Any helpful comments would be appreciated.
Cheers! |

No, the standard visa extension, especially with an E-2 is only a 30 - 60 day extension based on what country you are from. You cannot get a legal 6 month extension versus renewal of your visa through proper procedures |

Is there a limit on how often you can get your visa extended for those 30-60 days? Could I go to immigration 3 times to get my visa extended for 2 months? |

If you renew with the same school, you shouldn't need to do a visa run, unless they've recently changed the rules. You don't need to get a new ARC, but I think you do have to pay for a new visa (my memory is a little hazy on that point.)
On the other hand, you could just agree with your school and have a free trip to Japan. |

No visa run, they will endorse your ARC, when you and the owner go to immigration with your new contract. ame school 3 years, never did a visa run for years 2 and 3. You will also have to purchase a single or multiple re-entry visa. |

I'm going to immigration tomorrow to get an extension. My boss told me that it's free to extend and you can extend it for whatever period of time you and your employer have agreed to. I've had a 3 week extension and a full year extension and didn't have to leave the country either time. |

What do you mean by "standard" visa extention? It depends on your reasons. If you just need some extra time to sort things out before leaving the country, then the amount of time you can get is very limited.
However, if you have signed a new contract with the same employer who sponsored your visa, then you should be able to extend your visa for as long as that contract is good for. Take your contract to immigration and get the extension. A few months ago, I extended my visa for one full year with a new contract.
But it's not free. You still have to pay the 30,000 extension fee, plus extra for a re-entry stamp if you plan on leaving and coming back during that period. |

I stayed at my last school for 2 years and didn't have to do a visa run.
All you do is go to immigration with your boss and fill out some paperwork. They will write the extension on the back of your ARC and that is the end of it. |

My visa finishes soon. I would like to extend it for a further three months only.
Would this be possible? Would it be just a case of organising another contract for a three month period. I have no wish to extend for a whole year.
Thanks in advance for your help. |

what about the free airfare in your contract?
are you not going anywhere?
that should also be worked out when renewing as its a cool million in itself..
if i renew.. i taking a trip for sure and whether i need a new visa or not will be no big hassle as i will be out of the country anyway |
