I was at Costco today and there was no deoderant.
My supply is running low and I don't want to be stinky.
Do I need to have someone from America send it to me???
Does any place in Seoul have it???

I don't know where you're from, but if you're American, have you tried going to a US army base? They usually have US products there for the soldiers and my friends go there a lot for things like that...
Also, some Korean stores sell them, but the quality isn't too good, and they are super expensive (like, 8,000 won)... Etude House (the makeup shop that looks like a little pink cottage) also released a line of different deodorant products that you could try~ ^.^ |

| Itaewon foreign market, or whatever its called, carries several brands at only double of back home (could be worse). |

Only US soldiers, their guests/family, and people that work on base can go there. American citizens can not go on base without being signed in by a soldier.
I've seen deoderant in Itaewon. Some random shops will have some too. I don't think you have to go as far as get people back home to mail you some, unless there is a specific brand you want to use. |

Hi,
Walking into a base isn't easy at all(unless you know a soldier), and even then they have to buy it for you. Watson's sells Nivea for me, it's not great, but OK. Olive Young might have some as well. Smallest one I saw was for 6,300. Good luck. |

Nivea is what you can find anywhere (E-mart, Watsons, Lotte Mart or even larger Supermarkets) Some of them only stock these for summer.
In Itaewon you can find old spice, axe etc. I've seen Adidas deodorant at some sport stores.
Or the best option you have is: gmarket. |

Namdemun Market might have some. If not, there's a market near Jonggak station (line 1) that has deodorant.
Plus, the other places mentioned above. |

| Easy to find in Seoul. Watsons, Daiso, many large Homeplus, Emart and Lotte Mart sell it. I've even seen it in some GS25s recently. |

Golden rule of scrounging in Korea- Try EMart/Homeplus, Hyundai/Lotte/Shinsaegae Dept. Stores, and Family Marts/GS25s first, followed up by GMarket. THEN check foreigner-oriented places, as those places often sell stuff purchased from the above at 50% markup. |

Your logic is not sound. In Itaewon you can find a wider range of deodorant brands and types. That kind of selection is not found in your typical Mart or convenience store.
Its the same with cheese. So, there are good reasons to go to Itaewon for stuff. Personally, I like to use Degree deodorant. I dare you to find me a Korean Mart or convenience store that has Degree. |

Go to the Hyundai department store by COEX and then go to the National/Foreign Food Mart in Itaewon. Hyundai dept. store crushes it. Unless you are looking for blocks of Tillamook or 5 lb. bags of Cheddar from Costco sold at 50% markup.
Those stores just sell stuff marked up, trusting that the average expat is to shy, cheap, or lazy or has been here forever and has fallen into "just go to Itaewon" mode. How the heck is the National Market stocking Kirkland blocks of Cheddar? Are they an affiliate?
Yes, we need those places for the occasional odd item, but more and more it is for specialty things, not staples like cheese or deodorant. |

So, your counter argument is for people to go to another single location to find their needs?
Going to Itaewon or to that one Hyundai Department store, what's the difference?
The point is that people go to Itaewon for goods because they can't find what they want in their neighborhood mart/store. |

At 50% markup. As I said, they often take products that are from Hyundai/Costco/Homeplus/EMart and resell them at markup. And their selection is not as good in certain areas. It's just that it IS a one-stop shop. So if you don't want to go to EMart in one place for garbanzo beans and to Hyundai for a thing of Ricotta, you can just go to the store. But be prepared to pay.
Again, nothing wrong with taking a cruise through the big boy chains. I don't have much sympathy for the "local merchant" argument when they're just going to costco themselves and slapping on a bigger pricetag. |

I don't recall any of the people who recommended Itaewon, claim that it was the only place to get it there.
You can get computers just about anywhere, but if someone asks where you go, people will say Yongsan.
Itaewon is just easy place to do all your foreign goods shopping in one place. Foreign Foods store, and the FFS2 across the street from that. Also right up the street is High Street. Pinoy mart in HBC.
If someone asks me where to get souvenirs, I'm going to tell them Insadong, even though CoEx has souvenir shops also. |
