Hi everyone.

I'm from Toronto, Canada, and pot-bellied pigs are not legal here (they're considered exotic pets...psh!). However I've ALWAYS wanted one and have been aching for years to adopt one.

Are they legal in Korea?? Where can I find more information on this??

I'll be living in Korea starting this summer, and I have plans to stay there for several years. I'd love to finally get the pig I've been waiting for!

Any information is greatly appreciated. Very Happy

If OP can't take it back to Canada, it will become sam-gyup-sal.

Legal or not, not a good idea.

i dont knnow if its legal or not but I've watched korean documentaries ( you know the ones that follow people around for 5 days) and I've seen a few koreans own pigs as pets. Not sure if its a pot bellied one or not...

as the others have said, What will you do with it when you move back to canada?

Hmm. What kind of space requirements do such things have? Apartments here are typically small. Do you have to, you know, walk them? Because that will probably be, um, a bit different.

If they're like less-cute cats [sorry, but I'm not charmed by them], then you'd be all right. But if they're bigger versions of dogs, that could be difficult. You'd get LOTS of looks on the street. As to where to find one, if anywhere you'd look at a place called 'Exotic Pets Street' in Jongno, in Seoul. The place for iguanas, snakes, birds and pretty much everything else not small, furry and cute. If they don't have any there, then I'd say you're out of luck.

Agreed that for almost all Koreans, pigs aren't pets, they're dinner. Would be quite an effort to have one, but I suppose if you really mean it when you say 'years' maybe it could be done. Maybe.

There are Koreans who have those miniature pigs as pets, but I have no idea about pot bellied bigs. I don't think they'll be illegal though.

my brother adopted a pot-belly pig from someone who couldn't take care of it any more. it grew into a several-hundred pound pig. he loved it, tho, it's name was Snoopy - he built it a pen and it had a mudhole and everything.

he had a house, btw. they are huge when reaching adulthood, not for apts, which is why so few are around. they are cute when small but they do grow up, really UP!!

stick with a cat.
