it's been discussed briefly for some years that one can be searched, detained, questioned and computers and other electronic devices can be confiscated all at the discretion of the DHS agents, w/o warrants, and I know of a couple of people this has happened to - once. Never have I heard or read of something this extreme - I wish she'd spoken up sooner -

can't help but wonder if the fact she's female is part of DHS's tactics to intimidate her - certainly haven't heard of any male journalists or filmmakers this has happened to -
in any event, it's absolutely unacceptable and contributes to that list I keep in my head where I repeatedly ask myself why on earth do people keep on believing that the U.S. is such a great place?
what more is it going to take for people to wake up and understand just how seriously warped the govt has become? |

Wow, it's really become out of control-
One of the more extreme government abuses of the post-9/11 era targets U.S. citizens re-entering their own country, and it has received far too little attention. With no oversight or legal framework whatsoever, the Department of Homeland Security routinely singles out individuals who are suspected of no crimes, detains them and questions them at the airport, often for hours, when they return to the U.S. after an international trip, and then copies and even seizes their electronic devices (laptops, cameras, cellphones) and other papers (notebooks, journals, credit card receipts), forever storing their contents in government files. No search warrant is needed for any of this. No oversight exists. And there are no apparent constraints on what the U.S. Government can do with regard to whom it decides to target or why.
But the more I learn about what the US gov't/multinationals have been up to regarding covert wars, supporting dictatorships, helping the Nazis, snapping photos of mass executions of Korean citizens, etc., the less surprised I am at this type of behavior, which is obviously aimed at suppressing information...they'd like to see the day when all this type of info has been deleted, so they can go about their merry business convincing people there aren't better alternatives worth standing up for and to just accept their role as a cog in the machine...is this what all the people died for, 'true liberty and the pursuit of happiness'? |
