I guess there are quite a few coffee enthusiasts (read: snobs) on Dave's. I just got myself a proper burr grinder, so I wanted to ask you guys where you get your coffee beans. Ideally, a place the roasts their beans in-house. Bonus points if the price is also reasonable.

Name, location and bean recommendations please!

A friend of mine recommended Coffee Lab in Hongdae, but it's quite a ways.

Coffee snobs roast their own beans. How dare you even ask!

I've bought in-house roasted beans a couple of times but they always seem under roasted to me. I always end up just buying beans online and getting them shipped. They aren't that bad

I would recommend Club Espresso but it is probably too far for you. It is behind the Blue House up on Inwang Mountain. You can walk about five minutes and have an amazing look-out of Seoul.

I buy my coffee from Homeplus. Their selection suits me just fine. Just bought some fairtrade medium roast coffee (ground: 227g for about 7,000W). 2 cups keep me energized all day.

Thanks for the rec SMOE NSET, I'll definitely check it out sometime next weekend, if only for the view!

As for the "snob" part, it was tongue-in-cheek. After all, I've been drinking ground coffee for years without complaining Wink But now that I'm on my last brick of Lavazza, I thought I'd try something new.

Anyway keep 'em coming!

Order from the internet.

There are more and more coffee shops roasting in-house these days but
-its quite expensive (100 g for 5,000-10,000Krw)
-I dont feel the inventory is fresh enough. It doesnt matter what the package says, they can repack them in no time
-Ive never seen dark roast on sale. Im talking about French roast.

Internet sellers are not making a lot of money on individual customers but on companies and offices. They have much larger volume sales therefore its easy for them to keep their inventory fresh and roast pretty much daily. And you can get some dark roast which I prefer. 1 kilo goes for around 16,000Krw and up.

I drink Starbucks dark roast espresso at home. I pay 15,000 won for 250g.

Coffee Lab is fantastic, but expensive, limited to Hongdae, and lacks delivery. I usually order from Cafe Museo online for home use, but at the office I take delivery from a local roaster around the corner.

Coffee Lab when I'm in Seoul, Starbucks when I'm down in Yangsan. The guys at Coffee Lab are cool and their beans are excellent.

Paul Bassett's in Shinsaegae in Central City (the Gangnam Bus Terminal) are the best according to my coffee-fiend wife. When a trip to Seoul is unfeasible, she seems to prefer Holly's Coffee out of the major chains whose beans are available everywhere.
