Anyone know a good chocolatier, preferably mail-order, hereabouts? Not for Valentine's Day or any of that crap. I'm looking for a nice chocolate set to occasionally nibble on while at my desk/serve to anyone dropping by the office for a chat and maybe use for gifts at a later date.
Not break the bank expensive, but not a thing of supermarket chocolate neither. Say Godiva level or somewhat above (but not Godiva- they sure have slipped).
I can't trust any of those food blogs out there. "The chocolate was delicious. This place would be great for a date!" Oh really? That and every other place on your blog. Thanks nimrod.
Il Cacao and Chocobee look like possibilities, but I'd like to hear something from a foodie's mouth.
Or flame and troll this thread out of spite for all my past wrongs. I don't care.
Thanks. |

Hey SR
If you don't use it already
iherb.com is great for things like that.
The Green & Black bars are my favorite...and just recently added to iherb.
http://www.iherb.com/search?kw=green%20%26amp%3B%20black%27s%20chocolate
I like all their bars...the mint chocolate is one of my favorites.
Bit of a chocolate addict myself.
I also buy organic powdered chocolate and mix with my protein shakes, icecream, coffee..and...well..just about anything.

If you haven't used them yet...and would like a promotion code to get $5 off your first order...send me a pm.
Though I am sure someone will gladly post their promo code here in this thread for you.
This may be more info then you wanted...but anyway...best of luck with your hunt. |

| Go to the convenience store. The Fererro Rochet (sp?) ones are pretty good. You shouldn't have to get specialty chocolates made, it all pretty much tastes the same as far as I can tell... |

By the way SR...the Green & Black chocolate bars are for sale in Korea, or they used to be anyway.
At ShinSaeGae in GangNam...in the organic section.
They were $8 a bar.
That is why I suggested iherb.
From iherb they are $3. |

Royce Chocolate from Japan wins, hands down: http://www.e-royce.com/english/index.html
I used it with a very difficult girlfriend and every time I gave her Royce, I was either "forgiven" or got laid. Imagine what this does to a "normal" girlfriend (not sure if these are available in Korea).
I get my supplies from Bangkok (Paragon or Emporium Mall carry them) but maybe the website has infor on Korea or mail supply.
It's expensive.
Update: This is the one I mean: http://www.e-royce.com/english/product_nama.html. "Au Lait" is French for "Gets you laid".
Apparently they don't ship outside Japan for individuals. |

absolutely this. i'm surprised someone else has heard of this. you can find royce at a few shops in narita airport and it's the best chocolate in the world save for a few private chocolatiers in my humble opinion. makes mass produced stuff like godiva and lindt look like hersheys. |

I agree, Royce is excellent... BUT... is it available anywhere in Korea? As far as I'm aware, it's not.
The question still remains... what's the best chocolate you can buy in Korea? |

Well, I was looking more for like a 20-30 piece box. I can't really handle a whole chocolate bar, but I do have some good friends who eat like a chocolate bar a day and those look delicious.
Thanks for the heads up and the head start on some B-Day and Christmas presents.

Going to have to keep an eye out for that if I'm in Japan. Wish they shipped to Korea...Maybe I can scrounge some through some Naver or Daum search...
Thanks!
As for Ferrero and Lindt, not really my thing. Looking for more of an assortment of chocolates. |

I feel foolish now that I forgot to bring a few boxes back from Bangkok last week
The sacrifices we have to make with a 30 kilo weight limit... it's almost $20 for a box though, but what's the price of love?
I'll keep it in mind for my next trip, and bring a bigger carry-on bag.
Living in South Korea is just the same as living in the North, plus democracy! "Ethiopia of the East" is what I call here now |

I'm not a foodie, but I have tried some pretty high-end chocolate in my time. This guy kicked butt:
https://secure.mgmresorts.com/jpchocolates/online-shopping.aspx
Given the guy won Best Pastry Chef in France and numerous honors, you would expect great things. The chocolate was smoother than anything I've tried before. Really like several grades above Godiva. In fact, I liked them way more than La Maison du Chocolat and other luxury chocolatiers, whose prices are several times that of Jean Philippe's. The packaging is also exquisite, in case you plan on giving some as a present. It was nicer than some $200/box chocolates that I've had. |

| I was wondering how long it would take for a certain poster to chime in about his elitist chocolate experience. "I prefer chocolates made from cocoa hand picked by Ghanian virgin maidens, then sent into orbit around the earth for two months before Lichtenstein's top chocolatier works his magic. These are very expensive and exclusive; you probably never heard of them." |

| I quite like Jubilee chocolate. There's a Jubilee cafe in Itaewon (on the same side as the fire station, between Itaewon station and Hangangjin), Hyehwa (can't really describe where it is), and two in Yeouido. There are probably others, but those are the four I've seen. |
