I have win2k on my drive and it stopped working, it needed a file to loaded which I couldn't get . I dont have the disk.
so I installed XP PRO on the drive aswel and booted up with Xp..
but now I my computer is sluggish and slow.. I figure it becuase of the dual os. I want to delete win2K but I dont have a disk.. and it wont format with a right mouse click format either.. I put the XP on a partition drive.
and the win2k is sitting on its own partition..
How can I get rid of win2k to get my comp working better,.,.
IM downloading a copy of win2k now and I will use the format function on the disk.. is that right?? |

Boot into Win XP using the ARS...the Automated Recovery Disk.
Put in your WinXP CD. (You DO have one, right? )
Go into the BIOS and change the boot sequence, so that the computer will "Boot from CD". Do you know how to do this? Most computers, when booting, give the option to hit the "delete" or "del" key when they are on the first black and text screen. Hit the key "del" key and it will take you into the bios. Look for "boot" or something like that and change the values, probably using the "+" or "-" keys.
Ok...now the comp should boot from the CD...let it load all of the files (look at the bottom of the screen)...it will give you a chance to use the Automated Recovery Disk"...hit the key it tells you.
At this point, you can format the partition you want. It will show you all partitions on each hard drive..choose the appropriate one and choose to format that partition.
Be careful with drive letters here. Don't format the wrong one!
I think that's it. Perhaps not as thourough as I should have been, but it's late and I'm bagged.
Good luck. |
