Wing Commander fans, a new game was released a few days ago. Its entirely fan made and I heard the game is pretty good. |

I've had a wee go...seems fairly good! I don't have a joystick though so I'm trying to get my xbox controller set up. The game does support gamepads...it's just the default button settings are a bit rubbish. No way to adjust your speed without using the keyboard. It's all fully customisable though, so I'm sure I'll work it out.
If you have a joystick you'll be laughing. I was a huge Wing Commander fan when young so looking forward to getting stuck into this when I have the time. |

I like games based of the FS2 engine.
Disagree that the default control scheme sucks. It just takes a while to get used to, but it puts a lot of things right at your fingertips. A few hours of play and it becomes pretty natural.
Also, if you're playing with a mouse you should adjust the dead zone settings. |

I found with a couple of little changes, the Xbox controller became much more natural. Changed the right thumb stick so it controlls roll and throttle, and added targetting and weapon changes to the directional pad.
Really impressive work for a fan-made game...the only thing it's missing from feeling like an official Wing Commander game is the chats with wingmen between missions for story exposition. The missions themselves are excellent! |

Man, I loved Wing Commander when I was a kid. Thanks.
PS. There goes my productivity for the next couple of days. |
