Somewhere outside Asan is an area of apartment complexes built to house Samsung employees.

Anyone have any information on the place?

I understand that it's a little out of the way and doesn't offer much but how bad is it?

Don't know if this is related or not, "Two Samsung workers commit suicide in 10 days" - http://www.koreatimes.co.kr/www/news/nation/2011/04/117_79652.html

This might be what you are referring to, Tangjeong Tra Palace.

"Tangjeong Trapalace is Apartments for Samsung Electronics LCD Factory's Workers." - http://www.skyscrapercity.com/showthread.php?t=610907

Another one, http://www.samsungeverland.com/eng/company/overview/company.html

I see Anyang listed, not Asan though.

A little googling, and you can probably find what you are looking for Cool

Thanks YTMND.

I spent a lot of time going through the web and Google maps trying to figure out where and what it's like to live / work there....but came up with nothing useful.

I'm not even sure of the exact location but think this may be it (but maybe not)....Myeongam-ri, Tangjeong-myeon, Asan-si....isolated between the two citites.

I've never been to either Asan or Cheonan so wondering if anybody has any idea what living would be like in this area?....supermarkets, restaurants, parks, transportation, level of sanity etc....anything.

Cheonan is nice, and it has a very nice museum that I visited. However, it is far from Seoul. All cities have reasonable stores, it's more a matter of distance. If you don't mind buses, then you will have no problem. For me, I prefer the subway, train, or highway bus. So, I would just go into Seoul and stock up on anything I couldn't get nearby.

The local buses can get crowded at times and I am not too keen on their system of stopping only if you know you need to stop. I like to see the layout of the land so I can recognize where I need to stop.

Thanks again ytmnd.

Anyone know anything specifically about Samsung Tra Palace? It's in an obscure area that's not attached to Asan. Some sort of residential area for factory workers and their families. Not exactly the best place to teach and live but wondering if it's relatively doable for a year.

If you end up living in the Samsung Tra Palace, then you'll have much nicer accommodations than the vast majority of English teachers. If you have such a nice apartment, then I don't really think it matters what is in the immediate neighborhood. Why bother going out when it would be much nicer to stay home?
