Hi...I have a Korean resident number since I live here, but I'm still having trouble registering on a Korean website. It keeps giving me an error message... Does anyone know the process to do this successfully?? Or is there a way around it? I must be missing a step...

From what I know, ARC don't work on korean sites. Only for Koreans. Some sites do have section for ARC to be registered, but most sites that I've seen don't allow ARC to be used to register. If you have Korean friend to use there card would work.

Some sites are possible however others are not. What site are you trying to register on?

actually more and more sites are allowing foreigners to register now, but remember a lot of them will be purely in Korean, and possibly on a different page or tab since the databases to verify numbers for Koreans and foreigners are different.

If you are struggling, USUALLY it helps to type your name exactly as it appears on as one word and IN CAPITALS e.g. if your name is Thomas Willam Smith on your ARC, type in THOMASWILLIAMSMITH in the name space. This has worked for me so many times!!

This. A lot of websites have check buttons and/or separate pages for foreign login. Also, with respect to the name, it varies -- depending on how the site creators decided to fiddle with it. Try different combinations:

SMITH THOMAS WILLIAMS
SMITHTHOMASWILLIAMS
THOMAS WILLIAMS SMITH
THOMASWILLIAMSSMITH
ThomasWilliamsSmith
SmithThomasWilliams

etc.

Also, for financial sites, it helps greatly if you have a digital certificate -- you can then log-in to certain sites using that. Register for mobile banking, have a USB key handy, and get help from a Korean (sorry - each site is a little different for how to do it). Once you have one though, it makes doing your year-end taxes, online shopping, online banking, using eGovernment services, etc - a heck of a lot easier.

Obviously, knowing a bit of Korean is key.
