|
|
I just got it about a month and a half ago. Thankfully mine is pretty mild but I've read that some people get it horrifyingly loud and obnoxious. At first I felt kind of upset but I realized that it's pretty common. So just wondering... does anyone else here have it?
I'm going back to Seoul in two weeks and I'm hoping that work, social life, school, and the sounds of the big city will keep me occupied enough to not even notice it so I can totally forget about it. Sitting around at home with nothing to do isn't much help for it so I've been trying to keep myself occupied by studying Korean. Totally works.
I've only had it for a month and a half so it's still a little new and shocking but I know it will become a non-issue over time especially because it's so mild and sometimes disappears or becomes so low that I can't notice it for a series of a few minutes.
Though, I am concerned about the salty food and excessive alcohol in Korea. Those definitely exacerbate it. |

I've had it since high school. Naturally I've gravitated away from large gatherings. I can't even have a conversation in a restaurant. However, one solace is former Prime Minister of Australia Bob Hawke had it too. He did alright despite the handicap. |

I've had it since 2007. I'd imagine mine is relatively mild. I don't notice it when there's enough background noise. The worst is laying in bed. I usually sleep with music.
I always wear earplugs at concerts now (that's what got me in the first place).
Honestly, it doesn't really bother me anymore, but I do fear it getting worse. I'm 28. Hopefully it doesn't get worse as the years go by. |

For me it sort of seems to be getting better. Sometimes it gets so low that I don't notice it. I just noticed that when I am lying down for long periods of time it gets worse. Maybe because the blood flow is restricted or something?
I don't think I got it from loud noise.
It's reassuring to know that others have it too. I know someone else who I met in Korea who has it and says that he doesn't notice it anymore unless he concentrates on it, so that's also reassuring. |

Why can't you have a conversation in a restaurant? |

When I'm in an enclosed space, say a Lotteria sized room with about 15 people talking nornally, to me it sounds like they're all next to me and shouting at the top of their voice. |

You might want to go to see an ENT doctor.
Some people get rid of their tinnitus simply by getting rid of the earwax. |

I'm pretty sure that you have acoustic neuroma. Just plain Tinnitus doesn't do that. When I'm in a place like that, everything is normal and my Tinnitus is drowned out. Have you seen a doctor? I'm sorry |

I've been to two ENTs who say that everything in my ears looks normal. I tried using earwax flush-out over-the-counter stuff from the pharmacy and it didn't do anything.
I dunno what caused this but I think it might be TMJ. There's really no point in analyzing what caused it... that's like trying to find a needle in a haystack. I just have to work on habituating to it. |

What is this tinnitus? A constant ringing noise or something? |

If you've ever been to a concert or someplace with loud music and you come back home, lay in your bed to sleep and you hear a constant "ringing" sound like someone is tapping on a bell.
That's tinnitus. For most people, it goes away in a day or 2. For others, it can be long term. |

Interesting. I don't think I've had that ringing sound (like a constant high note, but pretty muted) in a long time, and I never had it the morning after |

There are 2 things that would absolutely suck to have permanently.
1. Tinnitus
2. That rocking feeling you get after being on a boat |

Eh, well, I've got it and so do a lot of other people... so I guess we just have to live with it and try not be bothered by it.
I have heard of it going away after months so I'll just wait and see, but for now I have it so it's pointless in wondering if or when it will go away.
Most people who have had it for a long time just seem to say that you ignore it over time which makes your brain forget about it and then you no longer perceive it.
The material world is suffering, I suppose... but suffering also creates more suffering if we don't take charge of it and be happy. |
