|
|
I have some questions (the questions are about international students):
Is anyone currently enrolled in a PhD program at a Korean uni?
Has anyone gotten a PhD from a Korean uni?
Do universities offer discounts for staff/faculty that want to take classes or enroll in a degree program?
Do Korean universities require GRE scores for admission?
How important is one's knowledge of the Korean language needed to get a PhD in English Lit/Comparative Lit? |

Why send pms? Then if someone has a question again, it hasn't been answered. I can guess what blue is going to say, but others might be in the dark.
Molly did you do your MA by distance, in Korea or before you came to Korea? |

Foreigners too?
not a bad deal. For people living with parents, or in a low rent situation that isn't too bad for Korea. |

Well, I guess I might as well just post here. My message to MB didn't have anything confidential in it, so I'll just quote it.

I am doing my Ph.D. (Korean studies) at a Korean university.
Generally, faculty/staff of a university are not allowed to do a degree program at the same university (possible conflicts of interest). However, it doesn't hurt to ask. There are usually scholarships available.
I can't speak for all universities in Korea, but mine did not require a GRE.
I do not know about Eng/comp lit. for language requirements. You will probably have to either pass a Korean language level test or a couple semesters of an approved language class before you graduate.
It's not much, but I hope it helps. |

Whoa, whoa. Now THAT might actually entice me into a PhD program. An extra 10 mil would go a long way in offsetting the crazy amounts of work that a PhD requires... |

I finished all my coursework at my uni in the US, and now I am in absentia working on my thesis. |
