I'm sure quite a few people were affected by this yesterday! I had to wait 45 minutes for a train when transferring at Geumjeong station last night, but it seems like people travelling earlier in the day had a far worse time of it...

Couldn't find any information in English, but here's a Korean report on what happened:

http://mbn.mk.co.kr/pages/news/newsView.php?category=mbn00009&news_seq_no=1178364

A few carriages of a freight train passing through Uiwang station derailed, and the subway was delayed as a result. There's a video on that page which, while in Korean, has an animation that shows what happened. Trivia not useful to anybody else, but one of my students appears at the end of the video, which amused me a little.

Good thing I stayed close to home because I was broke the weekend before payday-lol. Thanks for posting.

I'm always amazed that a simple accident like that can back traffic up for so much time, especially at Uiwang. It's a train yard with numerous spurs. They can't simply re-route the subways and trains around the problem? Sure, it's going to waste some time but not hours of it.
