Are there any Asian countries were hitchhiking is acceptable? I'm tired of paying for rides all the time.

In the Lonely Planet Korean phrasebook the word for hitchhike (just a Konglish translation) is in the limited dictionary in the back, so the idea can't be completely alien here at least

I'd advise wearing a shirt when hoping to be picked up by a stranger
