Hi all,

Can anyone tell me about the spa places in Korea? I was wondering about getting massages etc. Thanks!

I've heard massages here are horrible, because their since of a massage is not comfortable. All my friends who have gone in for a massage have said it's really painful. They come back with bruises all over their body, and everyone says that the bruises are a good thing because the bad blood is forced out of your body. Just go to a spa place and enjoy soaking in the hot public bath area.

Can you read Korean script? Almost all that I've seen are written in Korean, but basically they all say this: "마사지"

Sports Massage 스포츠 (these are really common)
Foot Massage 발 마사지 (these have a picture of a foot and different pressure points on the sign, and they offer other massages than just foot massages)
Thai Massage 태국 마사지 (I haven't seen too many, but apparently they're very nice

I'm not sure where you are, but I wouldn't count on them speaking English... Also, some tips~~

Unless you do aromatherapy massage, you will probably wear a t-shirt and shorts that they give you. BUT~ they are *very* touchy-feely... They will get right up in your groin and see no problem with it... When I told my boyfriend this, he said they did the same thing to him, so... They also will massage your butt, which is something not really common from my experiences back in the States.

If you feel uncomfortable, maybe say... "여기 만지지마세요" (yeogi man-ji-ji-ma-se-yo/ Please don't touch there).

They will probably be pretty gentle, so if you want a deeper massage, say "세게 좀 주세요" (seh-geh chom chu-say-yo) (Please use more strength/ harder please). If they are too strong, say "살살 좀 주세요" (sahl-sahl chom chuseyo) (Please do more lightly)

If you know what you want, you can ask a Korean friend or coworker to write down what you would like in Korean ^.^

Prices are based on time and where you are in Korea~ I got 1.5-2 hours for 70,000won. But, I went really late at night so they didn't have any other customers besides me and my boyfriend, so they gave us extra time for free~
