I am a Canadian citizen married to a Mexican citizen. I am getting ready to send off my documents for E2 in about a month and I have a few doubts about my spouse's visa. I believe it would be an F3, but it seems that some of the numbers have changed recently, so I could be wrong. If anyone has any advice it would be greatly appreciated.
We were married in Mexico and the marriage is legally recognized in Canada.
The information I've seen says we need to bring our original marriage certificate, ours is in Spanish so I assume we will need to have it translated, and possibly, notarized and apostilled here in Mexico. Does this sound right? Will I also need to have it stamped by the K-embassy here in Mexico?
What other documents will my spouse need and when do we send off for the visa. I've heard both that we need to do it from outside the country (like with my E2) and that it is possible to do it after we arrive in Korea.
Any advice would be great! Thanks! |

Hey, Im British and am also married to a Mexican. My certificate is also in Spanish. I had it translated in Mexico but it needed to be apostilled before an official translator would do it.
I was living in Guadalajara so may vary in other states but in order to get the apostille in Jalisco, I also needed the certified copy of the marriage certificate, which they should have given you at the Registro Civil when you got married, if not you can get one quite easily. The apostille itself I think was about 100 pesos and was ready in 24 hours.
Regarding the visa for your spouse, I too heard conflicting information but my wife just came here on a tourist visa and then applied for it at the same time I applied for my ARC. It was quite a simple process we just took marriage certificate, a document from the school saying you are employed and the fee. We both got our ARC at the same time.
We were in England for 3 months before coming here to Korea and I heard that she could have done it in London, but the people at the Korean consulate said she couldn`t and the people at immigration in Korea said she could. In the end rather than risk any problem of rejection we just did it here. Mexicans can enter for 90 days with no visa as a tourist. Hope this helps.. |

It's nice to hear from someone who has been through it rather than just people who have heard about the process. We will get our certificate translated and apostilled and get it done once we get to Korea.
We are going to Canada before we head over to Korea and on the website for the embassy in Ottawa it says they won't process visas for people from other regions of the country or from other countries, so it is a relief to hear we can have it done in Korea and that it will simple.
Just to double check: Did you have your certificate translated to English or Korean?
In Canada we don't have the apostille so we need to have everything stamped by the embassy. But I believe that with the apostille we wouldn't need to take the certificate to the K-embassy, right?

No worries, yes we had it translated into English with the same translator in Mexico I used to translate my UK documents to get married in Mexico. I dont think you would need to take it to the K embassy in Canada, the Mexican apostille and translation will be fine.
One other thing to enter as a tourist your spouse may need an onward ticket from Korea. We just bought a refundable ticket to Taiwan, the people at immigration in Seoul didnt care or ask for it, but the Asiana check in desk in London did ask for it so not sure if it would be the same in Canada. |
