Hello,
I am currently trying to get some kind of a server/nas in order to stream various video (.mkv,avi,wmv,mp4,m4v) and audio files to my iPad on the go, as well as stream to my WDTV Live Plus to watch on my TV. The files are stored on a 2TB USB External Hard Drive.
I am using StreamtoMe on my iMac (some kind of server application), and then I use ServetoMe on my iPad. I set the energy setttings so the monitor will sleep after 1 minute of non-usage, and then wake on LAN when needed again. But I am annoyed that I have to keep this computer on, and while I am streaming the monitor is kept on.
So, I guess I am looking for a good, cheap option to store video files on, From there, I will look for an iPad app to handle accessing the server. I have to be able to transcode video files as I watch (on-the_fly?), since I don't want to convert all my files to .mp4.
It should also be "smaller" in size, and quiet.
Any ideas? Parts/premades/models?
Thanks in advance for helping out a noob. |
