Morning everyone,

Always browse but i'm in a bit of a fix so looking for some advice from everywhere!!

I went to re-sign my EPIK contract on friday but the medical found high blood pressure. I say found, as it was more a case of i was stressed to my eye-balls after running about the hospital. It was 144/86 which is considered a fail. I tried to relax, but when the nurse called me "fat" and motioned towards my belly, it stressed me out more and my blood pressure was higher on the next test.

My question is, can this really send me home? From what i understand, this test is just for the board of education, not immigration. Has anyone had this experience before? What did your school do? I can't believe i would let go because my blood pressure was slightly high due to stress!!

Thanks for looking.

This happened to me because they took my blood pressure right after giving blood, which apparently spikes it a bit. Also, my posture was all screwed up when using the machine and apparently you are supposed to have your back against a chair when taking your blood pressure or you can get an inaccurate reading. I had them take my blood pressure with a pump and it was within normal range (still higher than normal but I was panicking a bit). After you have calmed down, tell them to take your blood pressure with that pump device.

Why did it stress you out that a nurse said you were fat.

1 X metoprolol (beta blocker) plus 1 X Xanax = Normal BP

I have hypertension. I take that combo and no problems.

More anger than stress. I also had my BP taken after giving blood.

hmmm... now I'm not saying you're wrong; it just doesn't make sense to me. How would having less blood (you just gave blood, so presumably you'd now have less following through your arteries and veins) increase blood pressure, shouldn't that, if anything, lower blood pressure?

Having high blood pressure will not fail you on the test.

I have high blood pressure every time I get tested usually because I am annoyed by having to do ANOTHER medical check and general hospital anxiety.

They always retest it and write the second score. Never had a problem.

Call the nurse fat, then point to her head.

I get super-stressed around needles and doctors, so I always get high scores for blood pressure, too ;.; The nurse just said that it was okay and not to worry about it... but I think she thought my blood pressure was high from walking up the single flight of stairs to the testing area, so she made me take an elevator to all my other tests >.>

It could be stress or a false high from too much activity just before the test.
If the school makes a big deal about it then tell them you'll get it monitored.
If it actually is high blood pressure then get some reliable medication. Want to bet
that every ajoshi in your school has high blood pressure from 20 cups of coffee per day?
