Hoping someone can help me here.
I first came here in 2010 when I had to submit my original degree. Last year I was able to renew no problems. But this year (as you may know) I had to get a copy of the degree scroll notarized and apostille stamped . I sent home a photocopy of my degree to get notarized and an apostille stamp on it. I got the notary certificate from my Lawyer and he sent it to get stamped. I received it yesterday and the notary cert has the stamp on it not the photocopy of the degree. Will this be unacceptable by immigration when I am renewing?
Also another question. I am from Ireland and Im sure that the original CBC I submitted is acceptable since it was already stamped and is a national check, Just making sure.
Oh and I called the helpline, They didn't really know what I was talking about and couldn't give me an answer |

In this case, the apostille isn't used to authenticate the copy of the diploma, but to authenticate the notary itself. So, the notary is to ensure that the copy of your degree is, in fact, a copy of an authentic, certified document; the apostille is to ensure that the notary is authentic and is licensed by the state/country. So you're fine. If you received the documents stapled together, make sure not to remove the staples, as it voids the apostille.

Definitely double check this. For American citizens, even though our CBC's are authentic and have official FBI seals on them, we're still required to get an apostille for them before they're accepted. |

ah I see. Thanks for getting back to me. Yeah my original CBC had a apostille stamp on it so hopefully it will all be okay. |
