100,000k+ for 1 wisdom tooth extraction (badly impacted) done at Woori Gimpo Hospital under insurance.
6,500 initial consultation
79,000 1 bottom wisdom tooth extraction (included 37,000 for collagen fill & stitches + 8,000 for needle shots in the arm)
6,100 for antibiotic meds
6,500 next day follow up visit (took 2 minutes to clean the area)
6,500 week after follow up visit (took 1 minute for him to look in my mouth and touch my cheeks only to tell me to come back in another week)
Will probably have to pay another 6,500 next visit but I told them I'll come back only if the numbess of my tongue doesn't go away. I'm not going to take a bus out there just for him to spend a couple of minutes with me and charge me for it.
Does this sound right? |

| I've got a bottom left wisdom tooth that has a big cavity in there and it's been giving me grief nightly for a few weeks now. It only throbs when I'm trying to sleep. I'll have to get that sucker yanked out very soon. The others are fine thankfully. |

That is a lot higher than my wisdom teeth extractions were, but then, mine were NOT impacted -- mine were about 50k, with another 10k or so for the antibiotics and painkillers I was given...but mine were done in the dentist's office -- didn't have to go in for "surgery" at the hospital...and that does drive the cost up.
Considering it would be about $500-$1000 in the US (high end under general anesthesia), I would still consider it cheap.... |

Unless you went to a hospital, I don't see how it could cost 50000 won to have a tooth pulled when the national health insurance plan covers most dental work.
I had mine pulled by a dentist I know. Quick and painless. I was in and out of his office in 15 minutes every time. |

For some it's no big deal if there is plenty of space for the teeth to grow and they grow straight (a few Tylenols to deal with the discomfort is sufficient)...for others...
Throat and ear infections, sore swollen throat, insomnia, throbbing pain which radiates to half the face, migraines, swollen lymph nodes,...
I experienced all of the above. |

That's exactly right squire.Wisdom teeth often grow in those hard to reach areas of the mouth. My bad wisdom tooth cannot be reached by a toothbrush no matter how hard I try.
I follow a pretty good dental hygiene regiment, but that one wisdom tooth cannot be reached at all. The plastic end of the toothbrush simply digs into my jaw and the tooth goes untouched. Alas it has decayed and is causing me nightly discomfort so I'll have to get it dealt with very soon. |

My time-10,000
I'll through in a bottle of ibuprofen
I hit you over the head rendering you unconscious, yank out the teeth, and stand there until you wake, give you some ibuprofen and a ride back to the train station.
All in all I would say 60,000 won at the most. But it could be about 25,000 if you live in the Daegu area. |

Why did you need shots in the arm? Collagen fill and stitches? I think I paid 30,000 for the dentist to rip mine out. He just put some gauze between my teeth and told me to bite down for 2 hours! |

Quite honestly, I don't know what the collagen fill was for. I'm assuming it's to fill in the hole afterwards? The shots in the arm are for antibiotics? I have no fricken clue except for the fact that he was trying to milk me for money. Nice. I'm never going back there again.
Did you guys have to pay for each follow up visit? He literally spent a minute with me to check the area and I had to pay for it. Would've been 13,000 won but because I am under insurance it was 6,500k. |

About 100K is what the national health scheme covers wisdom teeth extraction.
Many cannot be done by regular dentists as they require a general anesthetic done in specialized dentists or University hospitals and can be as much as 300K.
So if you don't need a general, maybe the dentist gives you 100K worth of treatment regardless, but you definitely score on the more complicated extractions.
Many parents in Korea get their children's removed when young, before the get too complicated. |

Many people's mouths are too small for wisdom teeth--when they grow in, they can mess up your other teeth and cause other problems. I think (though I may be wrong about this) that this is especially true when you've had braces because your teeth are no longer where your genes think they should be, if that makes sense. |

Last year my husband had his wisdom tooth taken out. He was conscious for it, if that makes any difference in price. It cost him only 13,000 won. We had a korean coteacher set up an appointment for him with her dentist. I suppose we got a pretty good deal  |

My friend just got one wisdom tooth removed and 2 fillings last week for a grand total of 17,000 won. The insurance covered most of it.
I need a wisdom tooth out myself and was hoping for the same luck. Unfortunately, I have to go to a hospital to get mine taken out because its 'complicated'... whatever that means.
I go today. Wishing myself luck! |
