I'm from Canada and I already have my E2 visa and when I came here, my MA hadn't yet arrived from my school, so I only notorized the BA. Now I just got hired at another job and need to notorize both the MA/BA diploma's for visa renewal at the new job.
Can I find a lawyer in Korea and do that here? Or does the apostille have to be from your home country?

Well some help from this bastard. I am guessing your degree in MA is from a Canadian university but for E-2 an apostillation is not done. Canada never signed the treaty. Your degree (if from Canada) then needs to be verified from a Korean Consulate in Canada. As to getting it notarized here in Korea well I am pretty certain a Korean Notary is useless. Pretty much the only way to get it notarized for Canada is at the Embassy/Consulate. Looking at the web page I actually do not think they do notarize but just authenticate.

So you will likely need to send it over to Canada. Hope you have some family or friend to help you.

Further hint is check out the Korean Consulates in Canada websites for how to get your degree verified. Here in the Vancouver one only helps for BC, AB, SK, Yukon, NWT residents.

Plus really you are renewing with the same school. Do you need to verify your MA. A verified BA is fine. I could understand if it meant a bump in pay or was required for the job. Or I am guessing you have never submitted a verified degree before. You where able to get away with the original for the last few years.

Go to the Canadian Consulate in Seoul. Call them first to avoid making two trips. Bring your original, your passport and give them money. They will certify the copy, stamp it and it's golden. If you are in Canada you have to go to a public notary then a consulate.


Certifying a copy of a document (per page) 23,000won
(I don't know if they will copy it for you----phone and ask)

Authenticating a seal & a signature,administering an oath, attesting a document or affirmation 57,500won

So it's like 80k to do it here, cheaper in Canada cause the Korean consulate charges less to confirm the document.
