What to expect:
A full bar and food menu
Playful heckling and Q&A
Awesome speeches
Open minds
Professional fun-loving people
Schedule:
4:15-6pm

These roasts are ridiculous and juvenile. They're made so 14 year old boys can giggle at adults flagrantly using curse words and talking about gentiles. They are the worst and most vulgar examples of free speech and any mature adult wouldn't be caught near them.
To me, someone is really funny when they can make me laugh hysterically without ever using a curse word or vulgar language. I agree that it is a practice in free speech and I defend your right to have it. But they almost abuse that right and give credit to those calling for a secession to their practices. |

That's terrible. People who aren't Jewish are no laughing matter. |

Sorry about that. The links were copied from another site and the comma disrupted it. They are fixed now. |

Ladies and gentlemen, here we have a person who simply doesn't understand roasts or Roastmasters and who has a stick somewhere it doesn't belong.
First of all, roasting people goes back many decades. Dean Martin and company are the best historical examples. More recently, Steven Colbert roasted G.W. Bush in an extraordinary manner, and unlike decolyon's stereotype, did so without obscenity. Most recently, the Comedy Central network hosts some of today's top talent as they roast famous figures like Pamela Anderson, Hugh Hefner, and Donald Trump. Those are filled with vulgarity and obscenity, those without sticks inserted appreciate the humor and wit the comedians bring. Vulgar roasts are not for everyone, and there are plenty of other forms of alternative humor available like the movie "Elf" and the hit Korean comedy "Gag Concert."
Second of all, decolyon has obviously never been to a Roastmasters meeting. Though the word "roast" is in the name, the Roastmasters club is built on Toastmasters' principles with a speaker on stage presenting a well-crafted speech. The audience in Roastmasters has the ability to heckle, but they do so playfully and humorously in an attempt to enhance the speaker's performance and audience's enjoyment. One of the founding principles of Toastmasters is a "positive and supportive environment." When someone crosses a line or simply is not funny, the audience usually turns against the heckler.
Finally, Roastmasters prides itself on being a "free speech" club where speakers are free to discuss any topic, controversial or not, in a professional manner with research and evidence given to back up their opinions. Conservatives, liberals, locals, and foreigners are encouraged to speak their minds. The club holds education sessions on freedom of speech ranging from laws, history, and philosophy to personal stories and round-table discussions. Speakers are given feedback to improve their own ideas and presentation skills.
As I mentioned in the OP, there are some things you can expect on May 14th:
A full bar and food menu
Heckling and Q&A
Awesome speeches
Open minds
Professional fun-loving people

This is exactly the response we'd love to hear in a meeting: Intelligent and spot on. |

Bump to the top. We are looking at 40-60 people attending the event and have speakers from the US, Canada, Korea, and Ghana, plus an impromptu speech session held by a South African.
Come on over with open minds and open beers. |
