OK, so here's the long and short of it:
I worked in Korea from July 2010-July 2011 and then came back home to the United States for vacation, renewing with my hagwon before I left with the intention of returning there for a second year. A few weeks after I got back to the US the hagwon contacted me and said they had decided to hire a teacher from in-country to cut costs and would ship my belongings back to me and provide me with a LOR. Fair enough.
Instead of trying to secure another job in Korea, I decided to stay at home for a time and then reapply in 2012. When that time came, since I had already 'renewed' with the school, I reapplied for the CBC and all the other requisite documents, then waited until I found the location/school I wanted (this is around Jan/Feb of this year.) I submitted all the documents to Kimmi and was waiting on my VIN. Suddenly, my employer-to-be contacts me out of the blue and says there is a problem -- my previous hagwon still hadn't cancelled my visa (although they said that they had) and immigration wouldn't grant me another. He (employer-to-be) apologized and said they had to go another route because the position needed to be filled immediately.
He said that once my other school cancelled my visa I was free to apply to any other job in Korea because my information (CBC/Dip/Apostilles) would be on file with Kimmi. Is this true?
I contacted my old boss via e-mail and asked her to cancel my visa -- no response. Several calls went nowhere. I believe they might have cancelled it by now, but I'm not sure. How could I find out definitively? But more importantly, if my up-to-date information is on file with immigration, how would I go about conveying that to employers when applying for jobs in the future?
I'd still like to return sometime this summer. Any advice would be greatly appreciated. |

Call Korean immigration and ask them if your visa is still valid. If it is then you are in luck. You can simply transfer the visa and skip the visa application process. |

It's almost May, what have you been doing these past 2-3 months? I would give the CBC a 6 month period and then figure you need a new one.
When did you get the last CBC? Your biggest problem in all this is greatly due to waiting too long and not taking action. Not being in Korea hasn't made it any better.
You should get your documents and go to Korea immediately. Your previous employer and would be second employer hired teachers already in Korea. See a pattern? Be the third teacher in Korea, go to Korea before you apply to a third school. |
