I am trying to study Korean, and I would like to use some comic books like I did when I was studying Japanese. I was wondering what the best Korean manhwa are. I'm not talking about Japanese manga translated into Korean, although that seems to be the majority of what you find on the shelves in book stores.

Check out the comics at http://comic.naver.com - you're bound to find something you like.

My two favourites are:

"Penguin loves Mev" (http://comic.naver.com/webtoon/list.nhn?titleId=169080)
Very easy to understand and also has English translations (they started doing that a while ago but the early episodes are all in Korean).

생활의참견 (http://comic.naver.com/webtoon/list.nhn?titleId=25613)
A bit more difficult, but based on every day situations so the vocab is pretty useful.

If you prefer to read offline, both of them have been compiled in book form and you can find them in bookstores.

I also studied from manga when I learned Japanese, and my favourite at that time was "よつばと!" - very, very easy and chock full of everyday expressions. I know you said you wanted original Korean comics, but maybe check out the translation (요츠바랑!) - it's good, and almost seems designed for learners.

Ah I forgot about webtoons. I'll check them out some more.

Yotsubato was one of the Japanese manga I used to read before I am here. In fact Azumanga Daioh is kind of what got me into studying Japanese, lol.

I hope that I could find something in Korean as comparable to get me motivated.

Hahaha~ Penguin loves Mev is so cute! I love cutie comics~~ I used to read one, but all I remember is that it was ridiculous @.@;;;

I used to read the English translation of the Korean manhwa "I.N.V.U"~ so crazy but I knew it was too ridiculous for me to be able to read in Korean ;.; If you find some good ones, let us know! I love Manhwa~~

Also, I have the Chobits and the Azumango Daioh omnibus editions with me in Korea~ ^.^
