I'm a GEPIK teacher.
Is there a way to get paid instead of using vacation time? |

Not really. You can see if you can get overtime though. You would be already getting paid, so I don't know if you are already in Korea or not. They still pay you for your vacation time at a base salary which is monthly. |

Take the vacation. Nobody ever looked back on their life and wished they had worked that much more. |

I actually agree with you 100%!
The problem is that with Gyeonggi cutting Saturday classes, they also cut summer vacation. My school now only has 3 weeks of summer vacation, but I also teach 3 weeks of summer camp every year and I have 11 days of vacation left. I'm not sure what to do. |

First tell your school that they need to find someone else for a majority of the camps. If the school says no then contact your GEPIK coordinator and tell them that your school will have to find someone else for the camps and that they are not giving you your vacation days. If you are still in a bind, use your sick days.
Really depends on if you want to re-sign with them or not. I personally would get the hell away from GEPIK after all the bad things I have heard (budget cuts looming, mistreatment of workers, sketchy apartments, etc.). |

What is a GEPIK coordinator going to do? Nothing, and getting GEPIK involved will only create more problems. |

If your school wants you to work camps during the vacation, but you still have vacation days left, then they will have to give you your days off during the school year. My old public school did this with me (my coteacher taught 2 weeks of regular classes without me). This was before the shortened vacation, but they really wanted to do a long camp.
It worked out really well as I was able to get a really good deal on flights since it was low season!
Take a calendar to your coteacher and show them the days during the school year that you will take your vacation on so that you can do the camp. Be really friendly about it, say something like. I've been thinking of some really good activities for our camps, it's going to be great!" and then show her the calendar and say "Since I will have camp during the vacation I think it is best that I visit my family on these days, please tell the principal about it and have my days approved."
If they don't want to give you vacation then you will have to put your foot down. They have to give you your vacation days. |
