Anyone have a list of Hagwons in Seoul. How about a link?

Also, how do I acquire a yellow pages in Seoul that would list all the English Academies in the city?

The reason why, is most businesses will want to change names after developing a certain level of ill repute.

Yea, so? What would the purpose then be? You have fingerprints or DNA on a bad hagwon?

Bad hagwons are only considered bad because Westerners are ignorant to the way Koreans do business and handle contracts, therefore try to place blame on the other side, when really, it was you who didn't understand the context of what was in question.

I hope you don't seriously believe that statement. Have you ever worked at a hagwon? You sound like a bad Korean hagwon owner who is doing bad business, and trying to justify it. Come off it, man.

Right...so my employer withholding 7 million from me and trying to dodge out on everything is me not understanding how Koreans do business?

Did I just bite? I did, didn't I

I briefly knew a rich businessman who had been here about ten years, and he referred to Koreans as the (think of the second word that comes to your mind when you think about WW2) "_______ of Asia". I'm simply relaying something that was told to me, don't assume anything more. Hagwons are rackets, I certainly hope other industries don't operate in similar ways, though I've been told it's generally much of the same. And I'm not saying that other countries operate differently.

No. That pretty much sums up the hogwon industry. You're understanding is impeccable.

You're just a bad employee because you didn't bend over and take it.

The OP posted a similar thread asking for the same information in which he went into extensive detail admitting that he didn't have a degree and was coming here to teach illegally.

In other words...don't feed the troll.

I was doing privates in Japan, and a school made a deal for me to give trials to new students. Instead, the school just sent their students who pretended to not sign up. It only took 3 of these before one of the students admitted they were already a student at the school.

Then the next day, I supposedly had a real "new student" who wanted to sign up. The school asked me to go with them to the bank to make sure the student would pay the costs. In Japan, at the time at least, they pay for 1 month and a sign up fee which is a ridiculous amount (like the apartment security deposits in Korea). After the school got the money, they left. I asked about the commission for signing up a new student and it ended up with them "not trusting" me for asking them. The guy came to my apartment, put the commission money in the mailbox and locked it with a combination lock. I didn't get the combination until after the school I regularly worked for saw the lock and wondered what the heck was going on.

In China, a recruiter will be your employer. They farm you out to different schools. ChinaESL has been accused of taking advantage of teachers, but to their defense I didn't experience this when I met them and interviewed for a few positions. I think it boils down to a money issue and what the teacher had expected.

He is pretty close to the truth, some teachers simply don't even understand the implied relationship between employer and employee or what is expected off them.

Most just do their hours and don't give a cent, what they don't understand is that a native teachers is a serious investment on their part, and if the investment doesn't pay off .... because the teacher doesn't give a damn ..... they need to find a way to stay afloat.
