I will be moving to Seoul in a few months. I was wondering how I could continue my prescription for Zoloft and Ritalin? Do I just need to bring my prescription bottles to get a new prescription from a doctor? I looked at the International Clinic and they said you need a medical record. Is a prescription bottle sufficient? How much does it usually cost? Moreover, I am worried about either drug showing up as a false positive on my drug test. Anyone have any experience with this? Thanks!

Judging by most of the fellow teachers I've met in South Korea, a good national supply of Ritalin should be considered essential.

I've met plenty of teachers here who abuse it, they said they just get it from the doctors, easy as they say.

let's face it op, you love ritalin, don't really need it, but abuse it as legal speed. Anyone who really needs to take it, HATES it and tries their hardest NOT to take it.

I guess Dodge7 is probably prescribed and begrudgingly getting his ritalin somewhere.

While there may be plenty of truth to what you're saying, do you really need to be such a jerk about it?

lol, I knew this would turn into a debate about ritalin.
Dodge, why do you think people who need ADD hate ritalin?

People hate taking ritalin because it alters their mood, makes them depressed. It's like coming down from a cocaine high--that empty, depressed feeling. When someone takes a low, medical dosage, they don't get high, but it skips right to the "down" feeling.
I'm not a fool, my friends have conned doctors to get scripts but that stuff messes up your heart.
It's made to calm hyper activity. How do you control hyper people? Put them on a drug that makes them feel down.
I had students in America who would have to take the medicine in front of the nurse because they would put it in their mouth and spit it out once they left the office. And the times I did see them after they took ritalin they seemed like depressed lump on a log. They hated that stuff.
I even had friends, who took it when they were younger, and told me the same. I had two friends who told me they hated that stuff for this reason.
So, you can fool the doctors (but you really aren't, they probably know what you're after, but give you the prescription for the kick backs) but you can't fool this guy.

So anecdotal evidence only? Or do you have more information because you are a psychologist or psychiatrist? Ritalin and other ADD meds can cause depression, but so can birth control. I am still using the former.

I would appreciate answers to my questions. Thank you Smile

Is it that easy to get here? I couple years ago, I had one student who I'm sure has ADD. I remember asking a friend who is a doctor how it's treated and he said that meds like ritalin are highly controlled medications and not easy to get. He also said that there is a big stigma attached to having any sort of learning disability, to the point where most students do not want to take the chance of being diagnosed with something. Apparently it can come back to haunt you later in life if someone finds out that you have any sort of mental problem.

I was a bit surprised at the time because I know that it's not uncommon in America for uni students to fake ADHD in order to get a prescription (or even buy it on the black market).

I paid about 90,000 won a month for a high dose of Effexor a few years ago. That was almost double what I paid in Canada, but I think it's still a little subsidized there (not free though, despite what the rest of the world seems to think).

It wasn't a problem, I just went to a doctor and showed him the prescription. He asked me some dumb questions with his limited English...eventually he tried to wean me off of it though, so be wary of that.
