I read on Wikitravel that at Hanaggae Beach there are outdoor public bbq facilities but can't seem to find anything else that confirms this.
Does anyone know if this is true?

I'd a friend there last year and he says he doesn't remember seeing them but also that he doesn't remember a lot from that weekend so can't trust him.

Also are there many stones available in and around the beach area? (so that i could make a fire pit if I brought charcoal)

There are no bbq pits there. There are no real stones there where you can make your own fire pit. Actually, there is a regulation that forbids any and all campfires. There is a coast guard station down the beach and the cadets will come around and tell you to put it out. I have heard that this only happens in high season. But I am not sure.

If you want to do some cooking you would have to carry your own grill.

Muuido used to be a nice little beach. In that you could go there on any weekend and there would be hardly anyone there. These days it is packed, dirty, and noisy. The worst part is that there are scores of kids that continually bug you, at the bequest of their parents to "talk" to the foreigners. And for some reason, when you put up your tent, away from all the other tents, a korean family will come and place it literally inches from your tent. This country sometimes mystifies me!

If you have the time I would highly suggest that you spend you weekends on the east coast beaches. There are so much nicer, cleaner, and less crowded.

Or even just avoid the hyped-up beaches. None of the beaches here are that amazing. Just go to a less prestigious beach. That's one good reason to watch Korean TV. You can see where not to go. Many Koreans are programmed directly by TV as they are in the west and will flock to a shitty death trap of an island if the box tells them to. It's a decent island but it's really not worth the hassle. There are also other good reasons for not doing what the Korean networks tell you to do.

Yeah I noticed that too. On a hot day almost evvery embankment and patch of sand around there is littered with people and their discarded napkins.

Its like someone got the idea to go there one day and everyone has followed since.

There is some sort of territorial invasion thing that gets triggered at the sight of a foreigner. I've had that once- I was sat on a wall when a noisy group of them came and sat down all around me.
Couldn't they have sat elsewhere? I mean there were hundreds of metres of empty wall to choose from nearby.

Hanagae is a nice enough beach, but there are much nicer beaches to go to if you take a ferry a bit further into the Yellow Sea. Deokjeokdo and Jawoldo are examples of islands with some pretty nice beaches to visit if you're up for an overnight trip.
