|
|
We have a week off... The first week of Aug. The lady and I want to chill at a nice beach that isn't overrun with tourists.
Last year everyone in Korea had the same week off, and I wouldn't enjoy Busan flooded with folks.
Any suggestions? We could fly if it isn't too crazy expensive.
Thanks! |

We'll head out of country. I have a budget, though, and don't want a flight that's too much more than about W500,000 round trip. |

why anyone would suggest bali as a beach to chill on is beyond me. bali is known as a surfing paradise for good reason: the huge waves that are everywhere. it doesn't even have very nice beaches compared to other countries.
my recommendation is a nice relaxed beach. check out phuket in thailand. quick and easy to get to with beautiful beaches. |

i stayed on the beach in candidasa in bali. the waves were calm and you could swim safely and easily. i have been to phuket and i think the beach at candidasa was just as nice and i loved bali as a whole even more than thailand.
phuket is nice to visit as well though.
but the nicest beaches i have encountered in southeast asia were on palawan island in the philippines. |

If you want to go to a nice scenic and quiet spot in Korea - go to Amnyeon-do. It has a really clean golden sand beach and clean clear waters. Lots of forested areas too. very peaceful and you can hear forgs and crickets at night. Koreans - imo bizzarely - prefer the East coast beaches which are pebbly and have opaque waters, but the west coast has cleaner sandy beaches and clearer waters imo. This means Amnyeondo will be nice and peaceful and the weather is lovely this time of year.
Plenty of minbaks and yeakwans there and amazing seafood.
Why it's not more poplar with koreans boggles my mind, they prefer sokcho which is stony beaches and over-crowded... better beaches than Busan, less to do and less expat bars and restaurants, coffee shops etc, but perfect for a quiet beach get away, bar jeju, I've been to a lot of the mainland beach resorts in Korea and Amnyeondo was my favorite for a relaxing time.
For outside of Korea, lamai beach on Koh Samui is better than Phuket - way more scenic and quiter than nearby chaweng beach and has a good mix of quiet, gorgeous scenary and all the fun of the expat experience thirty mins down the road at Chaweng. And some of the best food in Thailand. Samui was the original 'Beach' - s.e asia hippy / off the beaten path discovery. It's not that anymore, but for a first timer is perfect. |

Have you been to Bali? If so, did you ever get out of Kuta? |
